DH is really quite worried about flying with his pins next month due to all the new security. The last time we flew to Orlando was pre- 9/11.

He wants to bring his pin book in his carry-on bag because he does not trust it in the unlocked checked luggage but he is afraid that he will be hasseled about it particularly here in Missouri. He figures the screeners in Orlando probably know more about it.

Can you give me any tips/ideas on what to expect so I can make him feel better?

Thanks!

You should not have any problems at all. I have flown many times with my bag in the carry on. I just take it out of the carry on bag and send it through on its own. Usually, I tell the screener that there are pins in it, it lessens the shock LOL They will probably pull you over to loook through the bag. I think they just want to look at the pins :jumping1:

Don''t fret it and just be cooperative. When I have been ready for them it just takes a few minutes.

Judy's carry-on case weighs 35 pounds and has several hundred pins in it. We warned the people at the scanner that it would look unusual. When they asked us to open it, we asked to be taken to a private area, which is always available. In the private area they had two people, one doing the searching and the other appeared rto be a supervisor. Most of the pins were either in books, attached to removed pages, and/or in clear plastic bags. We did not interfere with their removal from the case, but on occasion made suggestions to simplify the search. At the end we asked that I be allowed to repack the bag, as I knew how things fitted in.

We have done this seveal times out of Baltimore, Dulles, Tampa, and Orlando and have never had any problems.

I would be terrified to check my pins, so I carry them and I am prepared to be pulled aside. Just make sure you allow extra time just in case.

I have had some screeners look at every page, some just open and check to make sure they are really pins, and some just ask me about them and don't even look at them!!! I think you're right though, that the more familiar the screeners are with people flying with pins the easier the whole process is.

Good luck and have fun!:D
