Flying with kids

A couple other tips....

Kids keep their shoes on when going through security

They will let you all go through the metal detector, not the crazy X-ray looking machine. It may take a couple minutes for them to "open" it if a lot of kids aren't going through security.

I prefer to get on plane later as it reduces time we have to sit on plane. When they start preboarding we head to bathroom.

A good rule of thumb is anything that needs a container to hold it's shape is a liquid. So peanut butter is ok, jelly is not. Unless you have it on a sandwich already made, and then jelly is ok. You could always bring along empty water bottles and fill them after security to save a few bucks.
Actually we had a whole jar of unopened peanut butter confiscated at Midway airport in Chicago. We were going down to the World for a week and wanted to bring some food items with us.

I had some fancy shmancy almond butter taken in ATL. I was soooo disappointed.

Everytime I've been through security, the kids and I get the regular metal detector and husband gets the other machine. So they may not let any other adults with you go through the regular metal detector.

This is what happened to us when we flew out of Orlando. The kids and I went through the regular metal detector and my DH had to go through another machine and they patted down his legs.

Just do what we do one adult takes one kid and both of their boarding passes; the other adult takes the other kid and their boarding passes. Donnie we are each one adult with one kid not two adults with two kids. We all go through the regular metal detectors
