Flying with infant (HELP!)

HI!
I need to hear from those of you that have flown with an infant, our daughter will be 3 months old when we go down in August...is this a bad idea? we still haven't booked we decided to look into it with the recent Southwest Airlines fare sale 49.00 Manchester NH to Orlando.

We've flown many times with babies. The youngest we've flown with was a month old at the time. For us it wasn't a problem, we were/are a traveling kind of family and wanted to continue the tradition with our kids. As they get older you'll need to have lots to keep them occupied but a 3 month old baby should be a piece of cake! Also remember to have something for them to be sucking on (bottle, pacifier, etc.) during take off and landing to help alleviate the pain of decompression on their ears. Even though your baby can ride on your lap during the flight, it really is safest if you purchase a seat for them so they can be secured in their carseat, especially should there be turbulance. It's also a nice place to let them nap if they're used to sleeping in their carseat.

I don't think it's a bad idea at all! Have a great trip!

Barb...Thank you..we have twin boys (6) and have flown many times with them but the first was at 2 1/2...we don't anticipate any problems but just wanted to hear what others had to say...Thanks again

I've flown with DD starting at 7 months, and DS starting at 5 months. Its a great age, because as otherwises posted, the don't need a whole lot of entertainment, and mostly for us, because of the free seat.
If you do fly Southwest, its great because you don't have to get there super-early, since you can pre-board, but what we always did was take the carseat to gate-check it, because if the flight is not full to capacity, they will let you have the extra seat. We have never not had a seat (did that come out right? ) On a Southwest flight, try to get the front row of seats, though, because the extra leg room gives you a place to lay down a blanket for diaper changes, or room to stand up and turn aroung to change them on the seat.

My wife is European and we both like to travel, so we have flown many times with our kids (DD4 & DS10months). The youngest was our DD when she was 5 months to Sweden. She did great and loved the flight! We took both our kids to WDW this past Thanksgiving and our DS was only 3 months and he also did great on the flight. I don't think you will have a problem at all. My wife and I think at that age is a perfect time. Once they are about 1, they want to move constantly, which then gets difficult, but not impossible.

Like one of the other posters said, make sure they have something to suck on during take off and landing. But I would say GO FOR IT!!!

I just flew for the first time with my DS in June. He was 7 months. We went to Boston, which was only a 45 minute flight, but I felt that it was a good practice flight. I just made sure to have a bottle for him for taking off and landing and he did just fine. In fact, he actually slept the entire plane ride home. We were lucky enough to have a whole row to ourselves, so he just stretched out and slept the whole way home!

My pediatrician gave us the best advice for flying!!
Let them suck (bottle, bubby)/nurse on the way up, and let them cry on the way down. Both things help alleviate the pressure and are specific to the up and down parts of flying.

Anytime I am on a flight and we are landing and a baby is crying, (they do this because their ears are bothering them) I tell the parents that it is okay...they are supposed to cry on the way down.
