Flying with infant - book her a seat?

We have taken both Car Seat AND Stroller for our son without any problem previously. We will be taking a Double-Stroller and 2 car seats this year. Is there any significant problem with that?

I am thinking that worst-case, we will only have 4 suitcases so the car-seats can go as checked items anyway.........Any thoughts?

(Sorry to hijack slightly!)

We have flown twice with DS before he turned two and never booked a seat for him, he was turning 2 the day after we returned this year, but I would honestly say that it was fine having him sat on either me or DH, he also shared his sister's seat for some of the time. He couldn't actually reach the seat back games on his own anyway so he had to sit on me! :rotfl: Mostly he slept on me too so that was fine.

The only time it was a little difficult was meal time, but the cabin crew were very good about bringing DH's food and then we swapped over and I had mine.

I think it's a personal choice as to whether you need to book a seat for and infant, and also there is the cost to factor in. Personally my DS wouldn't have sat in the seat anyway, and knowing this I thought it would be a waste of ££. This year they have both got their own seats, but I doubt that they will stay in them the whole time, they like their cuddles so I'm sure we will end up with them on our laps.

As for the baggage allowance, we have always taken a buggy and car seat for both DS and DD with no problems at all. I think the best thing to do is to call your airline and ask them, at least you have got the info straight from the horses mouth.

We flew with my dd when she was 22 months and she had her own seat. She is a tall girl and we wouldn't have been comfy with her on my knee for 9 hours. For us it only cost us £150 as it was a package deal and that was the childs price. If it had been over £500 I would have had to rethink

Thanks guys that makes me feel better. Will take car seat and buggy and I guess worst case they could possibly charge us but I'll deal with that. T16GEM thanks for saying that your wee one was great on the flight without a seat, TBH now that you mention it there is no way David would sit in his own seat anyway. He is generally a contented little guy unless he's getting told he can't have something and I'm thinking there won't be many ornaments/remote controls/phones/dvd players (get the picture) on a plane for him to play with lol! He can change the channel on the TV as much as he likes!!! Everything crossed for this flight!!! in 9 days - WOO HOOO!!! Actually in 9 days time we should be there!!!!!:banana:

I believe they are allowing infants 23kg from Sept 18th (I think) I know that is when their simplified baggage policy comes into effect!

And the "Call" button which our little man pressed a few times. You dont realise until a Stewardess arrives asking what the problem is !!

:lmao::lmao: Reminds me of when my Dad - who flew with us when DD was 22 months took her to the toilet to change her nappy, all we could hear from the back of the plane was ding ding ding ding, we knew it was going to be them, DD had been pressing the call button when she was lying on the changing table and dad didn't even know! The hostess wasn't very happy I can tell you! Seriously though who thought that putting the call button by the changing table was a good idea!!?? (probably a man! :lmao:)

Mo - Harley is a contented little chap too, and was happy just to snuggle, honestly I would rather spend the extra on stuff at WDW! :goodvibes

Yeah me too, just wish we had a luggage allowance to carry it home in - lol!! I'm taking loads of cheapo tesco vest tops and stuff, if need be they can live the rest of their lives in Florida so that I can get new stuff home!! :thumbsup2 Also taking all his nappies with us to make sure that I'm disciplined enough to leave a bit of space in the case for the way home. I normally have to sit on my cases to shut them on the way home from the states! Shopping is something I'm VERY good at!!:rotfl:

We always take our nappies with us, they take up a lot of space in the suitcase!! :goodvibes

we took all of DD nappies in March and still couldn't shut the cases easily on the way home :rotfl:

That'll be me!! Our luggage allowance is rubbish too, only 20kg each and that's without the wee man having any! Hmphh!! Better keep some cash back to pay for excess - lol!!
