Flying with CPAP machine and using Magic Express

Nervous about upcoming trip to Disney and using Magic Express because H needs a CPAP machine for sleep and read a book suggesting you not check anything you'll need for 24 hours if you're using Magic Express.

Would love to hear suggestions/experience of anyone who has traveled to Disney, used Magic Express, and had CPAP machine, or even other medical equipment, and how they fared with getting it timely.

We are staying at the Contemporary, if that makes a difference.

Oh, and we're arriving late morning on a Saturday, the weekend before Columbus Day, so it will be a madhouse!

Just carry on the plane and it on the bus with you. It will be in your room the moment you enter.

A CPAP is considered an assistive device. It can be carried on in addition to a carry-on bag and a personal item.

Also, a CPAP is fragile and valuable. So it should not be put in checked luggage, in any case.

If the room is not ready, the CPAP can be left with bell services, along with other carry-on items.

You should carry the CPap on with you.

Agree completely with the PPs.

You should NEVER put anything you need for the first 24 hours (especially assistive devices, prescription medications, etc.) in your checked luggage regardless of whether you are using DME or not. Such things should ALWAYS come with you in your carry-on bags.

I wish I could put my CPAP into my checked luggage. But I've seen how they handle some of those bags. Cpap machines are expensive computers (mine was $2000). Can't risk it.

You would never want to put the CPAP in checked luggage! To fragile and too expensive.

Agree with PP. You can carry it on as a medical device and it does not count towards your carry on items. It worked out fine for DH on our last few trips.

Has nothing to do with Magical Express. You should have everything you need for 24 hours in your carry on if you're flying. Doesn't matter whether it's to Disney, the beach, work, or visiting family.

I have not flown with my CPAP, but I would never let it out of my possession. It's fragile and I know I cannot manage without it.

Definitely carry it on with you. Be prepared that TSA may take a little extra time to get it through screening; this always happens with my dad.

Carry on but like the last person said, you have to open it all up and take it out at security screening (my mom has traveled with one). They check it all over. She has found a way to have it fit into her small carry-on suitcase once she gets through security.

My husband has a CPAP. He has never had any problems with his machine and security ect. Just take it with you. He hasn't ever had to open it up. They just put it through the scanner like everything else. Never put it in checked luggage-the way those are thrown around would be a disaster in the making.
