Flying with a nebulizer

As Mickey's wish trip is getting nearer, we are beginning to think through some of the finer points of the trip. One question that came up this afternoon is what do we do with her nebulizer? Her asthma is not severe and she only needs nebulizer treatments mainly when she's sick. I would feel better if I could carry it on with me just so I know it's not going to be destroyed. But is that a huge hassle getting through security? I doubt she would need a treatment between the time we pack and the time we arrive at Orlando, but one never knows. So how have any of you handled flying with a nebulizer?

We went through security just fine with our nebulizer upon departure from home. When we came back, I figured DD was fine without it so I put it in our luggage surrounded by clothes.

We have flown with nebulizers and epi-pens with no problems. They are allowed on the airplane. They always say you should have a prescription on the outside of the medicine but I have never had any problems. I would personally take the nebulizer on the plane with me - lost luggage , possible reaction to something always make me cringe. I rather have it with me-better safe than sorry. Is it a portable one or a plug in though?

It is a plug in. I will have her spacer she uses for her Flovent every day and can take an Albuterol inhaler to use with the spacer if she really needs it and we can't plug in the nebulizer. She doesn't like the "taste" of the Albuterol inhaler, but could use it if absolutely necessary.

The TSA screeners see medical eqiupment of all types every day. To them it's as commonplace as dirty laundry and laptop computers. You won't have any problems at all.

I just flew with my son's nebulizer the beginning of this month. I had it packed in one of the carry-ons. They hand checked the bag when we left Philadelphia and also when we left Orlando. The screeners did know what it was when it showed up, but they double checked anyway.

When we flew and my niece had a nebulizer... They had a plug in nebulizer. Her mother ask the Dr. about flying with it and he told her to take it back to the Medical Supply store and exchange it for a portable one. Which she did. We carried the portable one in a backpack with all the meds that go in it plus the attachments and Dn's Allergy med, too. We had a great time at DL.

Side note: We had been to WDW when Dn was 3 yrs and the last ride which we went on 3 times was Pirates Of The Caribbean, then we flew home and that night, Dn had her first Asthma Attack. The Dr. thought the Attack might have been brought on by the mold smells piped in to POC?!

I always fly with my nebulizer and epi-pens. In Orlando, they made me plug in the nebulizer to show them it worked. I guess they wanted to be sure I didn't hollow it out and put something else in there. In Boston, everything got through, but they confiscated my tube of lipstick. They said it looked like a weapon on the screen.

we took ours (Southwest AIrlines) and yeah, it was no big deal in checked baggage. Don't want to leave home without it..I thought our Maryland allergies would stay at home, but they followed us to Florida. My daughter took her shot 2 days before leaving , but I didn't want to take any chances & be w/o nebulizer.

We always keep the nebulizer in a carry on bag when we travel. I'm always worried about it being "rough handled" or thrown around in a suitcase.

The screeners always hand check our nebulizer when we carry it on. One told me it gives the appearance of a possible bomb on the X-ray-- the motor and wires.
