We are flying tomorrow, and so I need some quick info. I looked on the TSA website, but all the information is still confusing to me. So I can take a sippy cup w/ juice through security, as long as its less than 3 oz, is that right? :confused3 That's not very much juice for a 2 year old, but I don't know what my other options are.

Can someone please clear this up for me!?

Thanks!

When we were flying home and going through the Orlando airport, they let us take our daughter's half finished OJ through security with us, and she's 4. We just said she was still drinking it, wasn't feeling good, and asked if she could keep it, and it was no problem. But maybe they saw how freaked she got when I put it on the table for them too look at, and how she was clinging to it when she got it back. :rotfl2:

Maybe just put a little juice in the cup, and buy some more once you get get through security. I don't think it'll be a problem though. :)

so can you bring an unopened juice box w/you?
They might make you toss it when going through security, since the limit is 3oz and most of those juice boxes are more than that.

I'd just wait, and buy juice after getting inside the airport (after security). You can now take beverages bought after you've gone thru the TSA checkpoint onto the plane with you.

Thank you for the responses.

Believe it or not, we are flying out of a small airport that doesn't have anywhere to buy juice/drinks once you go through security! Maybe its changed since I was there last, but they had one deli-type restaurant and one gift shop and they were both before security. So maybe I can get a 3 oz sippy cup of juice to hold her over until we get on the plane.

Thanks again.

Wow, that's too bad! It sounds like they need to at least invest in some vending machines. :)

Oh, now that I think about it, there are some vending machines at the end! I guess I was thinking juice in a plastic bottle, so I didn't even think of the coke machines! Maybe they'll have water or some sort of juice - one thing I don't want is a 2 year old drinking coke before we board a flight (or anytime for that matter)! :rotfl:

Thanks!!

Wow, I didn't even think about a smaller airport that may not have concessions. I guess worst case is that you have the sippie ready and ask the FA's if they can get you some juice prior to take off to help your childs ears.

If lemonade or koolaide would be acceptable just this once you could use the single serve powder packs and then buy water in the terminal to mix it. We mix it 1/2 strength anyway so for a 2yo maybe could dilute even more.

You could always bring a small bottle of juice and see if you can get it through but don't bring much as you may very well be asked to throw it away. The problem with TSA agents right now is that they are very inconsistant, you may be fine with a juice box today and not tomorrow.

I did see an exception for babies and young toddlers allowing for milk or formula but I didn't see anything about juice. The stipulation was not more than you need for the flight.

Too bad the little gerber juices are 4oz and the smallest juice box is 4.2oz or something.

I bolded your comments because I wanted to point out that the container itself has to be 3oz or less not just the contents. So you can't put even 2oz of someting in a say 4-5 oz container. The containers in the zip lock must be 3oz or less not just the contents inside!

Trust me - if the contaniers are not clearly marked, in a zip lock and put through the screening in the bin separate from your carry on you could have an issue.

Ugh. Thanks. I was right when I said I was confused! I guess she will just have to go without for an hour or so until we board the plane. Won't be the end of the world, as long as I hide the Goldfish!

Thanks again for the help!

We flew out of Baltimore two weeks ago and I thought the same thing, that I could bring juice boxes that were still sealed in the plastic. You can't....they made us toss them all in the trash...I understand security but come on they were sealed....

Correct, we also just flew with 19 month old grand daugther and only an empty sippy cup was allowed. We were able to buy juice after security and took it on the plane. Of course, we could've waited until we got on the plane as they often have apple juice too.

When we flew in September, just before the latest rule change, on the way into the airport to depart for MCO my ds had a sippy cup with milk in it. It was about 5am so of course he didn't want it yet, so it was full. When we got to security, of course they told us we had to chuck it. (I only brought in the hopes they would let it thru because the TSA site said milk and formula is allowed if you have a small child with you...not always so, apparently). Anyway, I told ds we had to throw it out and he kept saying, "No, Mine!" and drank part of it. He'd stop for a minute and I'd try to take it from him again and he insisted on drinking it because he was just being a possessive 3-yr old (lol). Anyway, this was all taking place right in front of the TSA agent. She looked apologetic but still wouldn't let us pass thru, even after he had swallowed 3/4 of the contents in that sippy cup. So yeah, they can be very strict. Even if it doesn't make sense.

Thanks for posting this, my mom and I were discussing this today. I guess I will go with the empty cup and try and buy something after that.

What about the gerber baby juice in the mini bottles. They might be 3oz and they are sealed. Not cheap but they might let you bring them on???

I would try the "crystal light" single serve packs, that are made to add to bottled water. Bring and empty sippy, fill it up in the water fountain after you pass through security, and add the crystal light.

I guessI have no problem buying something on the other side. I'm sure the price is higher, but if it keeps us safer, then I'll do it, but it can be a pain.
I read earlier abouit someone hiding the goldfish? Are we not allowed to bring "treats" onboard. I thought goldfish and fruitsnacks, etc, were fine to bring on.

Unfortunately the gerber bottles are 4oz and the smallest juice box is 4.25 oz.

The majority airports sell what we need after security. Yes its more expensive but when you need it you need it! The OP was flying out of a very small airport with no concessions after the secure area.

In addition, most of the time, the FA's will hand out juice for the toddlers prior to take off. Keep in mind that if you want milk on the airplane it may only be onboard in the am, and not even then. If you want milk on the flight its best to purchase it in the secure area.

Jenseib - there is no restriction on anythig but liquid and gells. So goldfish and most other snacks are ok.

Here is a great reference page that will tell you all you need to know straight from the TSA,
