We will be going to WDW in May with our almost 2 year old DS. My 2 questions are

1. What to bring on the plane to keep him busy for 2 1/2 hours (also to keep him busy on WDW busses)??

2. Flight leaves at 10:55am, so we will be in the air at lunchtime. What can I bring for DS to eat. We are not coming from home that morning (coming from hotel), so I won't have access to make him a sandwich or something.....

We flew with him last year to WDW, but he was only 10 months old and slept the whole time, both ways.

Thanx!

I'd get Crayola Color Wonder products for the plane ride along with stickers and paper and maybe a new book or 2. For lunch I'd bring a softsided cooler bag with a ziploc bag of ice from the hotel and pack cheese sticks, crackers, fruit cup and juice or milk box. I think cheese sticks will be ok if they're kept on the cool side. I don't think they need to be refrigerator cold. If you're worried about that then maybe cheese sandwich crackers instead.

We traveled with our 2 year old just a month ago. Here are some of the things we brought: paper and washable Crayola crayons (washable in case he wrote on the plane, which he did on the tray!), small cars or trucks, new books, party size canister of playdough, travel sized Magna-doodle for drawing, and if you have a train fan, the Thomas the train Fold and Go set is great! It folds up pretty small, but when opened, it contains a track with trees and a building, and a small Thomas wind-up train. My son loved it, and the wind-up noise did not bother other passengers. You might also bring some kind of picture book where you can name animals or letters to keep him occupied. Also, bring snacks!

My son was also kept busy with a plastic cup and ice with a small amount of apple juice!

Portable DVD with disney movies and headphones that they will wear. Colorforms are also great we have the wiggles ones and my 19 month old DS loves them. The older sister 3.5 like the barbie ones.

Second the dvd player. How my parents traveled with us without one of those things is beyond me! A few of his favorite small books, toys, etc. Grab a pillow and a blanket as soon as you board. My little guy curled up and fell asleep right after take off (as usual). For snacks-my son loves the little Ritz pb crackers. Any kind of snack packs are great, fruit chews, airliner's pretzels, etc. Be sure to bring along a cup for your child and fill it up before your flight. You can also ask the flight attendant to fill it up. You will want this as you take off and land.........swallowing helps clear the ears. Pacifiers (if used) will also help.

I normally don't buy Lunchables, but I do get them anytime we fly. DS considers it a special treat. You can even buy them at convenience stores (though you should be careful of the expiration dates) and they sometimes have a drink included.

They go through security with no difficulty or spilling, and the tray keeps the food in place on the tray table. Also, you don't need to cut anything in order to serve it. I just wrap the box in a few paper towels and slip it in between the stuff in my carryon; the clothes insulate it enough for the short time before it is eaten.

If you are staying at an airport hotel before the flight, buy it on your way there, then put it in a paper bag with your name on it, and ask the hotel to keep the bag it in the kitchen fridge for you until you check out. That goes for home-made lunches, too.

Mrs. Toaster - Where would I find a Thomas the Train Fold and Go Set. It sounds perfect for an airplane ride for my 2.5yo DS! :sunny:

On our last trip in December my DS, who was 18 months at the time, was quite happy with a new coloring book, crayons, a new Disney board book, and a Crayola ColorWonders marker set (this is really cool, the markers are clear until you color in the special book, when the colors magically appear). I also found the travel Magna-Doodles terrific for both my DS and DD (3)! We packed them in my backpack and took them everywhere. They were great to pull out when the kids were getting bored. For food, I packed sippy cups in a small (2 cup) soft-sided travel cooler, which went it the diaper bag, as well as crackers, dry cereal, fruit snacks, and other non-perishable treats. It worked out fine! Good luck, it really was alot of fun. I was worried about the airplane ride, which turned out to be no big deal! :p

Ok, it is officially called the Thomas the Train Bring Along Thomas. Go to Toysrus.com, into the section where you can search by brand name. Under the Thomas the Train section, go into Browse More Thomas and Friends, it is under Other. It is only $9.99 and I did see it at my local Toys R Us just yesterday!

We also purchased a great Thomas the Train back pack/roll along suitcase for my son, and he loved pulling it through the airport. We used it to pack his toys and snacks.

Good luck!

If you go to Toysrus.com and type "Bring Along Thomas" in the search box, it brings it right up! That other Thomas site is a great one though! We used them to order our sons rolling backpack for our trip.
