hi. I had a fracture earlier this year and had a dynamic hip plate fitted. I was wondering if they set the scanners of at the airport and if so do I need to bring any paperwork with me? I am also disabled so they often send me through the scanner in my wheelchair and then use the manual stick over me. I am flying internationally from london Gatwick to Orlando internation direct. Tia.

I don't know regarding your position exactly-however I know someone who has metal plates fitted and always carries proof of their surgery.
I would also carry in the parks in case you set off the scanners there too.

I hope you are recovering well from your surgery-are you now supersonic & bionic?!?!

We flew a lot this summer. DH has titanium in his wrists and spine. He never has needed the card the surgeon gave him. You can get a card, but I doubt TSA will even look at it.

You can check for information on joint replacement here. https://www.tsa.gov/travel/special-procedures

Thank you so much for your reply. I will check out the link. Kind of you to take the time.

My wife has metal all over her back and I have an artificial knee. The cards we have have never been used or asked for by TSA. They will wand you. The cards can be forged pretty easily and TSA won't even look at them. Oddly enough my wife never sets off alarms.
