Flying to Disneyland from GTA - Virgin America vs flying from BUF?

Looking at flight options for a trip to Disneyland this July.

The best direct YYZ to LAX fare I could find is on American Airlines, a direct flight for $1600 for 5 of us. Would love to find something cheaper.

Typically we fly out of Buffalo to go to Orlando. Cheapest flights I can find from BUF to LAX is around $1300 (for 5) and from BUF to SNA $1500 (for 5). However none are direct and total travel time is at least 7 hours. Not ideal but doable.

I see that Virgin America has flights from YYZ to LAX as low as $1050 (for 5), but there is no flight information for July and can currently only book until Apri.

My questions are:
1. WHat have others done for flights from the Toronto area to the LA area that have worked best, either for time and/or cost.
2. Has anyone booked Virgin America? If so, any problems getting seats together for a family? On their website it mentions that sometimes you can buy tickets but not be able to select seats and have to have them assigned to you at the airport. Their planes look great, but I'm not sure how far in advance I can book.

Thanks in advance.

Virgin Airlines dropped its flights from yyz to lax starting April 6. Bummer.

I was wondering where you were getting those fares from Toronto and then realized that was only one way.

It might be worth your while to fly out of Detroit with Delta. You can get return nonstop flights with Delta for $326.00 depending when travelling. That was leaving Sat Jul 9 and returning Sun Jul 17th. So for 5 tickets return that would be $1650 versus $3200 return from Toronto.

The drive from Toronto to Detroit would be more than what my kids could handle, but the prices flying out of Detroit sure look good.

Any reason to suspect flights from YYZ-LAX will go down between now and summer? I'm not optimistic with the trouble in the middle east currently.

Haven't looked up prices before this past week. How is this fare compared to what you've seen before? It is non-stop, and leaves at either 830 AM or 1030 Am so ideal timing for us as being non-stop. We're not flexible unfortunately for a travel date (July 12th) and we are a party of 5.

I doubt fares will go down with the stuff going on in the middle east and July is peak travel season. You may want to check Rochester since I do see several one way fares for $180.00 including tax. Flying out of Pearson the $219 becomes $306.45 when you add all the taxes and fees.
