Hi Everyone!
I will be making my first trip to California for a conference at DL in July. I know they have transport to and from LAX and SNA so I was hoping to fly into one of those airports. I just looked at airfare and holy smokes $400+ round trip. It will just be me (DH has no vacation time left) so I'm not picky on airline or seat location etc. Does anybody have any tips to finding airfare to CA? I've only ever been to FL so I know my perfect booking time frame there (we already have flights for Sept to FL). I'm just nervous with gas prices, flights are just going to get worse. Any advice is much appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Maybe I missed it...but where are you coming from? I am just flying between Northern CA and Sourthern CA but I always find SWA (using Ding) and JetBlue into Long Beach are the cheapest.

I found the same thing when I was looking at flights from Houston-Hobby to the Anaheim area. Flying into SNA, it would be $546. Plus the cost of transfers. But into Burbank, $237! And I can rent a car for less than any of the shuttle services. So Burbank, it is!

Chttyangel - sorry. I did fail to mention that. I'm coming from Chicago. Southwest was $397 when I checked last night. This may be a silly question but what is Ding?

Gina- thanks for the tip about Burbank. I was trying to stay away from renting a car but if I can find one for a reasonable price it would be worth it.

Ding is an application from SouthWest you put on your smartphone or desktop. You program your home airport and they will send you specials. You usually only have a few hours to book thou. An example; I am going April 6th. The first part of March Ding ran my home airport to ALL So Cal locations for $59 each way. The alert came in at 6AM and it expired at 8PM that same day. You had to have the application to get the alert.

Chttyangel - that's great. I'm going to download the app now. Does it send you a text message when something becomes available or do I just keep checking back?

It pops up on your phone as a notification.

Correct; you will hear a little "ding" nosie (similar to what you hear on a plane) and if you have a smart phone you will get a message and a little number next to the app showing there is something new. It is GREAT. The deals are usually only a month or two out but a great way to save. You can only book through the application; not the website or phone. Good luck!!
