We are flying Southwest out of Albany in May 2007. I need a hotel near the airport for just one night. There are 5 of us so we will need a room with a cot. Also the cheaper the better. We are planning on parking at the airport as well. Any advice on which parking lot to use. Thanks for the advice.

What have you found so far for rooms? I will let others tell you about parking but wanted to know what you have researched as far as hotels.

I am looking into the Holiday Inn Express on New Loudon Rd. With my AAA rate it comes out to $80 for the night and they have a buffet breakfast. We will be arriving in Albany around 9PM as we are driving from Canada and I just want someplace clean and predictable and not too far from the airport. I've also looked in to the Best Western on Wolfe Rd. but they want to charge me extra for my DS14.

The Hilton Garden Inn is the closest to the airport. It's very nice, we've stayed there several times, and would have no problem staying there again, but it's going to cost more than the Holiday Inn express or Best Western.

Just an FYI on that Holiday Inn Express...if I'm not mistaken, that's a pretty old motel that's been refurbished, but it's still not going to be the nicest place. The area it's in is safe enough though, which is nice.

Here's an idea, look a little further North in Clifton Park. There's a Hampton and a Comfort Inn, as well as another Holiday Inn Express that are all relatively new. The Best Western up there is probably the oldest property in the area, and that's maybe ten years old now. From any of those four hotels the Albany airport is an easy 20 minute drive--plan on half an hour if going during morning rush hour mid-week.

Thanks Anne

I'll give those a try. It's so hard to know what to do when you've never been to a particular city before.

I grew up in that area, my mom and two of my brothers still live there, so I visit fairly often. Glad to help!

Oh--as far as parking at the airport, it's really not that big at all, so it's not going to make that big a difference which lot you park in. (I'm not sure there is more than one long term lot to be honest...)

It's great that you got some good advice. I prefer the Hilton's over the other hotels but I guess it depends on what you want. I was going to suggest the Hilton Garden Inn.

We routinely spend the night before our flight in Albany. There are two Comfort Inns near the airport - one is off British America Blvs and the other is on Central Ave. Both have continental breakfasts, shuttles to the airport & kids stay free. The one on Central Ave. is a Comfort Suites, so the rooms are larger & are equipped with fridge, etc. Both have indoor pools. You can access them with this website - www.choicehotels.com. Many different rates are available, if you reserve a gov't rate, be sure to bring the gov't. photo i.d.

We usually leave our car @ Albany Park,Ride & Fly. You are shuttled to/from the airport & your car is always running & warm upon return.
www.albany parkandfly.com. There is a AAA discount available & special rates if you pre-pay.

If you get to Albany before 11 p.m., you should try to go to Grandma's Restaurant on Central Avenue - they have a huge selection of home-made pies. The Dutch Chocolate Almond is a favorite. Or, there is also the Wolf Road diner, it's open 24 hours, and the food is good. Have a great trip!

Another vote here for the Hilton Garden Inn. You can see it from the airport - 2 minutes away. We always park in economy Lot E - $5 per day with the 5th and 7th days free. Never a problem, free shuttle bus from your car to terminal takes 5 minutes.

We stay at the Marriott on Wolf Road, Albany - about 5 min from the airport.
We have Marriott points -so no fee for us for 1 night (20,000 points).

Enjoy a relaxing night before your flight to WDW :goodvibes

A friend of mine flies out of ALB quite frequently. Can't help with hotels, but he said there's an economy lot on airport property that's real easy to use and very reasonable. You can see and map and info at the albany airport website. www.albanyairport.com

There is a new Home Suites hotel (across from the Holiday Inn-Turf on Wolf road) http://homewoodsuites.hilton.com/en...E2MU4BNTQICSGBIXMVCQKIYFCVUUC?ctyhocn=ALBHWHW that looks really nice (call for a rate at the hotel besides the one on the website). If you just want a budget hotel you might want to check out https://www.microtelinn.com/reservations/locationdetail.asp?facid=20&c=near, but you will need 2 rooms(they are small-and I am not sure if they have cots, so you might want to ask). Microtel is just north of the airport off 87North.

Parking...We usually use the LT Garage parking(because it is covered), but since you are going in May that might not be an issue for you. The remote(Economy Lot) lot is cheaper, but when you are tired and then have to wait for a shuttle and shlep your bags, IMO it is not worth the extra savings. The Garage tower has a sky bridge, so you can roll your bags across inside in rainy weather or across the street it good weather. But if the weather forecast is good do the LT parking across from the terminal.

I agree with the park and fly suggestion. For what you will pay to park for your trip duration, you can usually pay for the hotel.

If not, the Marriott on Wolf Rd. was very nice - just there a few weeks ago looking at SUNY Albany.

Excellent advice everyone! I feel well informed now. Thanks for all the help.

Definately either use the Park and Fly, or Economy Lot. The Economy Lot is $5 per day, and will shuttle you to the front. The regular long term lot is $11 per day.

As for the hotel, the Marriot on Wolf Road can be had on Priceline for between $50 and $65. I have done it three times, most recently about six weeks ago. Just wait until about a month before you need the room. Bid the Albany airport region, 3 * and you should get it.

The hotel you are looking at is fine, do not go to Clifton Park as someone else suggested. That is insane, and you won't need the traffic headaches in the morning. There are plenty of hotels around the airport that are clean and will not cost much.

PM me with any more questions, I live 10 minutes from the airport.

She's coming from Ottawa, so Clifton Park is right on the way. I suggested it as an option to find lower priced hotels if she can't find anything around the ariport in her range.

The traffic is heavy in the morning, but not unbearably so.
