Flying Standby/Checking Bags

Hi!! I fly on business quite a bit but I only carry on bags as it makes it easy to be flexible switching flights or flying standby if needed. We are heading to MCO with the whole family and of course will be checking bags. We have a late afternoon flight and I would like to fly standby on an earlier flight so we can get down sooner. How does the checked baggage thing work in that situation since you don't know until a half hour before the flight if you get on???? And how does it affect DME if at all?

When you get to the airport they may be able to confirm you onto that earlier flight. It shouldn't affect DME.

Most airline will let you check your bags on the earlier flight, the bags will make the flight even if you don't clear. DME will just hold your bags at MCO until you arrive at the DME desk.
