This is our first time with 4 seats as last time my younger DD was under 2. I have 2 girls (4.5 and almost 3).

If you are a family of 4 do you get 3 seats together and one across the aisle or sit 2 and 2?

When we fly we are either 2 or 5. But if we were 4 we would sit 3 and 1. With the one sitting on the aisle seat across from the 3.

We flew South West for the first time last Christmas. Hubby, DS 14, & DS 11 were in the very last row of the plane. I was in front of them in the window seat. We usually fly Jet Blue & get one row of 3, then I sit in the aisle across from DH. He's a big guy so he prefers to sit with our Boys so he's not squished next to strangers.

I think a lot depends on what you plan to do to occupy the kids. When mine were those ages (3 and 4) - We would ALWAYS do 3 across with one across the aisle. We would bring a laptop for videos and dh or I would start sitting in between the kids for takeoff...But then when electronics are allowed I would switch seats and and put the two of them next to each other so we could put a movie on and they could both watch the same one.

We are a family of 5 and have 2 boys that like window seats so my wife and DS5 sit in the row in front of the rest of us. Easier to pass stuff back and forth since someone would have to sit in the aisle seat between us if we sat on the same row.

Keep pushing the wife for another baby to fill that sixth seat but she is not buying it. :)

We are a family of 4 as well and usually sit 2 and 2 as my kids like to look out the window and it's easier to have their own than have them leaning over each other. I would have no problem going 3 and 1 across the isle if the windows were not requested by the kids.

2 and 2 and the younger one that kicks or plays with the tray table in the behind row.

We are a family of 4 and we do 2 and 2... its easier to hand things back and forth to each other and each kid and an have a window!

I do see the nice bennifits of doing 2 and 2 but my concern is my granddaughter who will be 3 on the trip adores her cousin, my grandson who will 6 at the time. I feel she will not be happy unless she gets to sit with him. I think for us we will do 3 then the one accross. My DH and I can take a turn who is next to them.

It depends. Sometimes we do 3&1, but usually we do 2&2. When we do 2&2, we also have our 3 year old sit behind our daughter, so it's her seat he's kicking. In a perfect world, we wouldn't have to do that, but until he's a little older it's the most courteous way to sit, IMO.

We just did 2&2 on our TG trip to visit family, and it worked out well. We were on SW, and no one sat in the aisle seat either coming or going, for both my husband and I.

We have done it both ways - huge benefits for us on both accounts. However, if we are doing a flight with a layover, we do 3-1 the majority of the time. My kids both want a window, so they each get one on one flight. The reason I prefer 3-1 is because I hate disturbing strangers whenever someone has to to go the bathroom. Inevitebaly, each kid has to get up once to go during a flight, and I like to get up and stretch once, too. DH is a bigger guy, so he prefers the aisle or window...
