Am I the only crazy one that is flying out of rochester this Break?

I did it last year, and we enjoyed the airport and the drive that were doing it again, but this year im noticing that flights out of BUF are in some cases cheaper. I think we jumped the gun on this one.

Thanx, happy disneying

We have flown out of Rochester and it was great. It's a nice airport and the Holiday Inn will let you leave your car in their parking lot and shuttle you to the airport as well. We would certainly do it again. The price was right too.

We usually fly out of Buffalo but got a better deal flying out of Rochester. Flying down on Sat Mar 14th and back on Sat Mar 21st. We've tentatively booked the Marriot Fairfield Inn right at the airport for the Friday evening. We don't fly out until 2:45pm on Saturday so we were going to drive down the day of but have booked the hotel in case of bad weather. We'll likely end up going down the night before anyway and starting vacation a day early ;)

Actually I keep saying we are flying from Buffalo, when we are actually flying out of Rochester as well. We are flying on the 5th of Feb. with Airtran, and got our flights for $72.00 per person, each way! We thought it was a good deal. How far is it from Buffalo to Rochester? I mapquested an hour, does that sound about right? We are staying in Niagara Falls the night before at Great Wolf Lodge as our flight doesn't take off until 4 pm. We are almost 8 hours from Buffalo to begin with. The joys of living in Northern Ontario. We liked the Buffalo airport as well. Anybody done the airport parking? I haven't figured the parking situation out yet!

Admittedly, this March will be our first time flying out of Rochester but I'm told that once you cross the border it is roughly 75-90 minutes to the airport depending on your speed. Here is the airport website with all the info and maps you'll need for parking.

Anyhow your timing is about right, the problems always is at the border, you could be stuck a while.:scared1:

Well at least were not alone.

We really liked the airport too, and the parking rate is great! at $5.50 a day, thats almost half of YYZ parking.

Our flight leaves at 6am, so were just gonna red eye through the border and arrive at the airport for 4am. We have a nexus pass, so its no rush through the border, but at 3am, i dont think anyone will be there anyway.

I haven't flown out of Rochester but I have flown out of Buffalo, Detroit and Pittsburgh. I scored a deal with AirTran during the holidays and got totally lucky. For one day the fare from Pittsburgh to Fort Myers was $48.00 one way and I used a $25.00 off coupon so I paid $23.00 + taxes one way. It ended up costing $335.00US return for 5 tickets and both flights are nonstop as well. Flights times are in the afternoon so I plan on leaving in morning and doing the 4hr drive over to Pittsburgh in morning. It's a beautiful airport and the Peace Bridge is the easiest crossing one can make. The Ambassador bridge in Detroit with all the construction and March break can be crazy. It took over an hour to cross there last year on the friday of March Break.
I'm actually flying out of Buffalo this friday since my daughter has a cheerleading competition in Indianapolis this weekend. It's such a breeze to fly out of Buffalo and huge savings compared to Pearson.

I have flown out of Rochester, Buffalo, Syracuse and Detroit at differing times due to the outrageous airport taxes here in Canada most times my fare was HALF of what it would have been out of any Ontario airport. I've never regretted it. I just booked on Jet Blue out of Syracuse for March. Non stop both ways for two people was 300 rt. You can stay at the Holiday Inn Express, leave your car there for free and shuttle to the airport. I pricelined the airport hotel last time and got the room for 40.00 dollars.

I must say this time round the flights were higher. I've never paid over 89 dollars rt till this year! :scared1: Let's hope the fuel costs come down soon!
