My sister and her family are looking for flight for 12/10 to Orlando and 12/17 back. My BIL has some nervousness about flying out of Newark because he never has before. I found them some great prices so my sister asked me to post here to ask the experts if there's anything for him to be worried about. :confused3 She also wanted to know about parking at the airport...the cost, the best area to park, etc.

Any info would be appreciated! :goodvibes

I'm not sure precisely what your BIL's concerns are...Newark is a good airport. Since he's unfamiliar with it, I'd give an extra 1/2 hour to navigate into the area, and all that, but that's it.

Anyway, there are plenty of on- and off-site parking available. Avistar is an off-site location that I used primarily when I flew for leisure. On-site, there's lots of parking too. Sometimes, during the week, P4 gets full, but if he isn't flying on Continental out of C terminal, P4 isn't the best place to park anyway. I think parking is about $20/day in the close parking. I don't park out far anymore, so I can't tell you what the other parking costs. There's also valet parking, which is somewhere around $36/day (used to be a deal at $18).

He may find the Port Authority's website to be helpful: http://www.panynj.gov/aviation/ewrframe.HTM

I've found Newark Airport to be of a managable size. Yes, it is large but not too big. I would give an extra 1/2 hour as suggested. It helps me to focus on finding usair and not worrying about the other 100 airlines listed!

There really isn't anything to be worried about. The airport is certainly much easier to navigate around then it was a few years ago. I always check the local traffic report to make sure there is nothing happening on the NJTP that is going to slow down getting to the airport.

As Nono mentioned, Avistar is great to use for offsite parking. I use the McClellan Ave lot for both biz and pleasure. Great during the winter, the car is always warm and the windows clear. With your AAA card you get a 10% discount. The Avistar web site also has coupons.

Also, if they live near the train, they can take either Amtrak or NJT to the airport.

With the EWR in general, find out ahead of time what terminal you need to get to. I will say that, I always find Term C hectic no matter what day or time. But hey, it's CO main hub. Just give yourself plenty of time to checkin, get through security and relax till the flight leave. I'd rather kill an hour having coffee or a beer then running thru the terminal because I'm late.

Can you find out what his concerns are? I always fly out of Newark since I'm only 20 minutes away. Can't help with parking someone usually drops me off. As long as he knows his terminal I can't think of any problem he should have.

Going TO WDW - I'd fly from anywhere (even those NYC airports)!!!!
But from NEPA - Southwest out of Philly 4 me!
Have a great time!

That was the orginal plan, but SW only has flights out until 12/12 and they were $79. I got my sister Jetblue for $59 out of Newark and $69 back on USA3000. The driving distance from here is the same and they were worried about waiting for SW to come out with the rest of the dates in December. $734 for 5 people is pretty decent :goodvibes . Thanks for the feedback everyone :worship: !

This is my first post so I hope I'm doing it right :confused3 ...
We too are flying out of Newark on 12/10 and returning on 12/17!...Since Newark was refurbished a few years ago it is much easier to navigate...as others have stated, we are also using Avistar which drops you right at departures at the terminal...we have a coupon for $69/week, much cheaper than on site parking...We have found parking at P4 isn't too bad since the Air train (monorail) connects all of the terminals...hope thay have a wonderful trip!

Hi- I'm also from NEPA and last year was our 1st trip out of Newark too. We found RT tix for under $100 - so we tried it. We had no problems at all. The airport was very manageable flying out and coming into.

Have a great trip :)

We always try to fly out of Newark but for our next trip we are going out of Philly. When flying out of newark we always use Vista airport parking (I'll find the link), they are great! The price is about $9 per day and they take your things from your car, park it, and bring you to your terminal. The parking lot is right at the Howard Johnson and to my understanding the company is run and manned 24 hours per day by retired and off-duty police officers. The lot is all fenced in and we have never had anything but a wonderful experience with Vista. When you get back to the airport with your bags just call them and they will be there waiting (we have never waited for a van) - when you get to the lot your car will be waiting.

I don't think I would ever park my car at the actual airport, its expensive and long term parking is very very far away. They have a shuttle type thing for airport long term parking but I've never heard of anyone that has had a good experience with it.

Newark airport is a pretty good airport since the renovations, especially the C terminal. Best of wishes!

I fly out of EWR all the time on business (I'll be there monday a.m.) and I always use the long-term parking and never had a problem. It's $10 per day and I have never waited more than 10 minutes for the shuttle bus.

Conversely, we tried Avistar a couple years ago and it took 20 minutes for them to pick us up upon our return, and my car had a new scratch in it.

Obviously there are no guarantees no matter what you do, but don't automatically assume that off-site parking is better. I think the long-term lot at the airport is the cheapest, most convenient way to go, and it's a gated lot with security so I don't consider it any less safe than off-site.
