Flying out of Heathrow, into Gatwick.

Anyone done this?
Where did you leave the car, Gatwick or Heathrow?

Any ideas of where to stay in-between airports so that travelling costs and times are minimised?

We are doing this in November this year.

Flying out of Gatwick to Vegas, then back into Heathrow from LA (Disneyland)

We are getting a cab to drop us off and pick us up for two reasons

a) Knackered after the long flight, dangerous to drive
b) The cost of car parking is more than the cost of the cab

If you leave after us I can let you know how it goes

Thanks, but we live over 100 miles from the airports so we have to drive and leave the car somewhere.

At present I'm favouring driving to Gatwick, staying overnight, then taking a taxi or bus to Heathrow for the flight out. At least the car's near when we return.

The alternative is leaving the car at Heathrow, then an added taxi/bus ride when we get back!!

I'm still quite undecided!

I don't know where you live but have you thought of the Flightlink buses. They pick up at various places between Birmingham and Heathrow/Gatwick.

Why not hire a car. Most of the big companies have depots onsite and allow one-way rentals.

We find that renting is usually cheaper than the cost of the car park, and the depots (at Gatwick at least) are much closer to the terminal.

We live 70 miles from Heathrow and found that a taxi is not as expensive as you might think. Certainly worth pricing it up with local firms before booking hotels or car hire etc?

Thanks for the replies.

I'm now staying overnight at a hotel near Gatwick, two rooms, as my "kids" are 19 & 17, + parking for 22 nights for about £150. Taxi to Heathrow £60.

Considering BCP wanted £150 just to park the car at Gatwick, plus the £60 bus to transfer to Heathrow, I'm happy as we can now have a good family meal and a drink before the flight, and be ferried to Heathrow, with no worries!
