Hi all! I am thinking of flying Southwest out of Albany, NY. Can anyone tell me if this is an efficient airport to fly out of? Also, I am looking for a safe place to park my car for the week that I am gone. We normally stay at an airport hotel and take advantage of "park n' fly" but our car was broken into last year so I am a little nervous about doing that again. I know that these things happen but I just don't want to be at Disney and worrying about my car. Is the airport parking secure or perhaps someone knows a hotel close by that has a secure lot?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks,

TC.

I have flown out of Albany many times and it is an easy airport to get in and out of. Park at the remote lot and take the shuttle to terminal. SWA desk is justinside doors and gate is at the top of the escalator. If you haven't flown SWA before then be sure to get there early to get a good seat as they board in the order of you arriving to check in at the desk.

I am flying out of ALB next week on southwest... I plan to park at the Park, Ride and Fly... It is 8.63/day

It's small and very manageable. We have always left our car at the remote D lot and have never had any problems, it is patroled by the troopers that are stationed a the APO. Here's the link for ALB APO parking Albany APO Parking $5/day, $20/5 days & $25 for 7days.

After parking the car walk to the end of your row and a shuttle will pick you up, they run very frequently. On the return just catch the shuttles out front of the APO by the baggage claim area. Pinky and Daisy are two of the shuttles and when you see them you'll know why! :rotfl:

if you are needing a hotel I would recommend the Wingate. They often have a special for the Park and Fly right next to the hotel that is often cheaper than the airport parking...we always use them...very secure lot for the cars and bus over to the airport is 2 minutes away...

I am jealous by the way we couldn't get a flight out of Albany for our april trip and have to go to Phily to catch a plane...those SOuthwest flights sold out in MINUTES!!!!

Thanks everyone! I checked out the APO website and the long-term parking looks great. Now all I need is for Southwest to bring on the internet specials for this summer!!!!! :Pinkbounc

I would suggest the Park and Ride, and you can get cheaper prices on line if you prepay, or buy a coupon book. They do a great job, and no worries that someone will accidently tap your car (and the airport holds no responsibility). Of course that may be a one time sour grapes thing for us.

The car will be all warmed up, or air conditioning running by the time the shuttle gets you there. Plus, they always have room for you, which is not a sure thing at the airport...and makes for a hurry up trip to Park and Ride, if the lot full sign is up. You can get your boarding pass on line at 12:01 am, which saves you having ot get there too early to try for an A.

There is a hotel across the way that the parking is free, if you stay there...we have rented a room there just to use the pool, if you need a place to stay.

It's a great airport to fly out of, and we fly at least a half dozen times a year, and seem to always be dropping off or picking up one of our kids.

We always use the airport garage.
I would if I had a handicap hanger (since it's only $25 for the entire stay if you have a Handicap hanger)..but when we fly out there is seldom any spots left other than handicap, or for a short car. After not finding a spot there, and a slight bump in the car and a full lot at the long term, it's easier to just go straight to Park and Fly. We seemed to always end up there anyway.

::MickeyMo I flew out of Albany in 1997 when headed down to WDW to do my College Program with no problems. I am again flying out of Albany in May. My friend has been flying every week for work recently out of Albany and everything has been efficient as well. :earsboy: Where in NY is everyone from? Anyone headed out of Albany on May 21st? :wizard: Rebecca

::MickeyMo I am near Utica. I have never been to Lake Placid but we were thinking of camping up that way this summer. Rebecca

Besides a rotten housing Market due to the people that have vacation homes here I LOVE living in the Adirondacks!

Have you tried Trans Meridian out of Hancock APO in Syracuse? A quick 2 1/2 hour ride on I90W. APO is even smaller than Albany, long term parking in garage w/ covered walkways to APO, (very nice when traveling in February, no snow to clear :goodvibes ) We have done this when we couldn't get a good price out of Albany, (family of 5). We have gone out the night before, pricelined a hotel by the APO, and still came out cheaper than big carrier prices from Albany.

sarahsmom73.... I live in Delmar, but my heart belongs in the ADKS, we spend as much time as we can in our little pop up camper "Weasel"... because you know Pop Goes The Weasel" :teeth: We love the state camp sites and Hike and Kayak all season long. You're very fortunate to live there.
