flying love bugs are everywhere this week

Since they are attracted to bright white and yellow, at the pool they are probably after the pool towels. ;)

I remember when I lived in Florida they had a really short life span. A couple of weeks they were really bad and then poof gone again. Hopefully by Saturday :)

At least they don't bite. They're just annoying.

They sound like May flies or Canadian Soldiers we get up north. Do they last about a week and take a month to clean up. :thumbsup2

I think they are more selective than that. They seem mostly attracted to UNATTENDED pool towels saving pool lounges while the guest is at a theme park.

my personal theory is the lack of very strong storms or hurricaines is the reason they are back the last 4 years i have been at BCV the same dates each sept and this is the first i have really seens them ..no storms this year to clear them out

When are they usually gone? Do they come out full force the first couple weeks of Sept and then start to die off at the end month, or does it last into Oct. I am speaking on average since I know each year is different. :goodvibes

We were in Ocala, just one hour north of WDW, last Saturday and Sunday - no lovebugs. Guess that's because they were all at WDW!! They were AWFUL. Never seen so many, and we almost always go in a "lovebug season".

Maybe the lovebugs were on vacation at WDW, ya know - for their honeymoon. :teeth:

Well, that's pretty disgusting. I leave Wednesday for Florida, and you all have made me....not very happy. I've just gotten used to palmetto bugs, and no-see-ums that bite, and now I have to tolerate love bugs. Are they useful for anything besides making the rest of us envious of their endurance? :lmao:

Yep, we just got back from a week @ BWV, they were everywhere. Just going out on the balcony they would fly into the room and once DD forgot to close the balcony door for about 1-2 minutes and there were probably 40 on the door & curtains. I took the broom out on the balcony to sweep them off the floor, chairs, table, etc. everyday.

Enough! You're freaking me out now. We leave in 11 days! I sure hope they will be gone. I don't like bugs. I esp. don't like swarms of bugs.

I think the mating season only lasts about a week or so. They should be gone by then.

They are on their way out. I have a white front door and entry, so they all love to hang out there. I've been noticing a lot less the last few days.

They are not scary in the least. They look just like 2 fireflies/lightening bugs stuck together. Don't wear any light colors and they leave you alone. They don't bite, they don't do anything except spend time together. They are actually cute. Annoying but cute.

And yes, for some reason they have been very bad this year. I swear there have been a few years where we didn't get them in Sept, only in May.

the only real revolting thing is that the staff does not clean the eating table of the dead ceatures and its pretty disgusting to pay Diseny food prices at Hurricane Hannas poolside and have to ask for cleaning fluid to do a job that they know need to be done all day long ..the staff at Beaches and cream were very attentive in cleaning the bugs off the tables ...and lastly the door ways in and out of the lobby should be swept clean of all the dead little bugs ...its gross to have to try and step over thema nd then hear them crunching under your sneakers...i know they cant do anything about the problem but thye should at least clean up the mess they cause and not leave it to us to clean it or step over it .....

by the way storm along bay was a perfect low to mid 80's water temp all week ......... and the pool is bug free!
