How's the drive from Tampa to WDW? Have to use Frequent flyer tickets
and there's nothing available to Orlando from Mpls.

72 miles Tampa airport to WDW exit.

Drive time varies with:
time of day
amount of construction
any accidents on I-4
weather
etc......

figure 1:25-1:30 would be fair estimate.

we always fly into tampa. it just seems easier/faster to us. i read in a book that the travel time to/from orlando airport to WDW is about a 1/2 hour. each time we've driven to/from tampa airport to WDW, it's taken 45 minutes to at the most an hour. we've never driven there during rush hour, lunch hours, but have driven on sunday afternoons and still get there in this time. we've found that renting a car and "sometimes" flying into tampa is cheaper and with the easy getting in and out, it just makes it more convenient for us. just my opinion though.. ya never know until you try it for yourself.

TPA seems to be the cheaper option to Florida these days, so I've done this three times now in the last month. Rental cars in Tampa are offsite (at least Alamo and National that I use are), but very close by. Once you get your rental, you head south to I-75 to I-4 and on to Disney. It usually takes me about two hours from when I land through to luggage pickup and on to rental car pickup and then on to Disney to get to where you drive under the WDW welcome arches. I've done it in as little as 1.5 hours, but two hours door to door is the average.

I like flying into Tampa. I find the airport to be efficient (rarely do I wait for my luggage to come out), and the drive to WDW is usually about an hour (not counting the stop we make at Publix on our way in).

We always rent from Dollar, which is in the terminal. The parking lot is just outside the baggage area (on the Southwest side, you do need to go up an elevator to pickup your car).

After 40 some trips in the last 10 years, I can tell you that Tampa is only about 30 minutes longer in travel time than going from Orlando. Easy access to the expressway, easy rental car, quick luggage, etc.

If there is a significant cost savings to flying into Tampa (like $100) a ticket, we do it.

(but secretly it is a little more exciting to fly into Orlando)

Anyone flown JB into Tampa??? We were thinking of it but there is only one flight per day and i'd hate for it to get cancelled!:confused3
