I had a colleague tell me they wouldn't travel to LA this year, thinking the whole region was in ruins from the fires. I explained how that is not the case, but they didn't believe me. I'm not trying to minimize the damage from what happened in January, but I think the news has a tendency to negatively impact people's perceptions, especially for those unfamiliar with a particular area.

Yeah, it's like in 1989 when some houses collapsed and gas-line fires started in a few blocks of the Marina District, and people around the country thought all of San Francisco was on fire.

There are many ways to get around Los Angeles, so I wouldn’t worry about freeway disruptions. If you’re using a car service or traveling with a GPS, it isn’t likely you’d be routed onto the Holllywood Freeway on a normal day as it’s literally bumper-to-bumper nearly 24/7.

100% agree, but one word of advice it traveling by GPS - do not accept alternate routes from Google other than the freeway. Not because they are likely to put you near these protests, but because coming from LAX into Anaheim, Google's alternatives to avoid traffic have put us into some less safe areas, with burning grocery carts, people coming up to the car windows, and even rather risky road crossings without lights - where the locals seemed to just dart out into high speed traffic, forcing it to stop, and got mad when I didn't want to do the same.

We had a 3.2 earthquake yesterday. A little rocking and rolling but not enough to worry about. Still, if aren't from the area, it might make you concerned.

I confess...huge Kiefer fan...surprising how well this show has held up compared to others...it does get funky in a season or two but I love all the twists and turns...must better than Designated Survivor. But with all that is going on, it just boggles the mind how spot on some of the things are...

For one thing, Disney fans usually refer to the California facility as "Disneyland," with "the Disney Parks" referring to the Florida complex. Not that it can't be referring to DLR, but clarification of where this came from would be helpful.

I can't verify its accuracy. I just brought up the KTLA app on my Roku because if this is true, they'll be all over it tonight.

Not happening. After the Bush Administration began aggressively checking I-9 (the form everyone completes when you start a new job that authorizes you to work in the US), Disney required all its domestic employees to have it on file or they were terminated; it’s been requires of new hires during their onboarding ever since.

So Disney is compliant with the law. Anybody who is not legally permitted to be here would not have authorization to work. Wouldn’t be surprising if a few employees used forged documents but they’re not gonna be easy to catch.

It has been all over social media. I tried to track it back to the source but it looks questionable. One very large influencer who shared it updated their story with "Update from my earlier post! No sightings anymore. Please update me if you see anything."

Another influencer posted about it (different image) but then updated with "Hearing from people near Disneyland that ICE is no longer being spotted near the park. Thanks to everyone who reached out to the word can be spread. If you shared my previous post, please share this update." and "To be clear. I am posting only when getting information from people I personally know and trust."

Edit to add: I'm looking through the social media accounts that shared it and most of them have taken it down.

ICE is targeting companies not complaint with I-9 reporting and - mostly - day laborers. That’s why they hang out at Hime Depot.

Disney is a compliant employer. ICE is not targeting Disneyland. There’s no reason to be concerned about any plans to visit the area. Bountiful Valley Farms was replaced by the Avengers Campus awhile ago .

We are heading to DL from overseas, (regular DL visitors) arriving Sunday...and we are seeing some pretty scary news about federal military deployments into the area. I know it's a big place, but at one point the 101 was closed. Any thoughts on best strategies from airport? We don't want to cancel but it feels like this is just getting started.

Yeah… unless you’re able to adjust to fly to Ontario Airport, I don’t think it’s safe to go through LA right now. If you can find a different airport nearby, go through there.

There have been enough instances of garden variety police activity being deliberately misrepresented as ICE activity by terminally online activists for propaganda/anxiety reasons that completely unverified sightings online mean next to nothing in the real world.
