I tried searching because I know I've read this a million times before but couldn't find anything.

We're cruising from Port Canaveral in September. We'll be flying in and out of Orlando. What's the earliest flight we would be safe to book home. There's one for 12:10 and one for 4:35. There will be 6 adults and 3 kids so we really don't wan to sit around in an airport for hours.

They recommend booking a flight after 11/11:30 so that you have time to get to Airport and get thru security. This first breakfast time is at 6:30 am.

You will be fine on the 12:10 flight. Plenty of time. I am on a 11:25 flight in April. Last time I was on a cruise they said nothing before 11:30. You have to be off the boat by 9am but can get off as early as 7:30ish.

DCL recommends nothing prior to 11:30 am but if booking your own means to get to the airport, many have booked a little earlier than this without issue and you can book any flight within your comfort (personally if doing a walk-off when Customs clears the ship, I'd not book anything earlier than 10:00 am - one accident along the route to the airport and you may be risking a missed flight). If booking DCL transfers, your flight from MCO cannot be leaving earlier than 11:30 am for them to allow you to use and book.

If get off the ship at 8:30, how long before you are in your car heading to the airport/home?

12:10pm is an ideal time for this.

We've been through the terminal and with luggage and Customs behind us in our car on deck 3 in as little as 15 minutes but never more than 1/2 hr. You will have a few minute wait to be swiped off by Disney (keep those cruise cards handy as need one from the cabin when disembarking), a few minutes to find your luggage in the Customs hall, a 5-15 min Customs wait (8:30 am it will be busier) and 3-5 minutes later you are at your car (the longer wait if having to wait for another elevator in the parking garage).
