Can anyone give me some opinions on the Flying Fish? I'll be going with DS12 and he's not picky, likes fish...just looking to see if anyone took their kids there and liked it. Don't know if I want to use the 2 TS for it...?

My kids have been plenty of times. Its very good - we stay at the Boardwalk, so its a regular stop for us. The kitchen is open, the restaurant fairly loud, and the decor elegant and yet fun. I'm not sure I'd bring a two year old - my prejudice is not to risk a tantrum in a signature place - too much good food on the line to eat out of a styrofoam box - but twelve should be far past the age where a meltdown would be a risk.

It might take a little longer than a 1 TS meal - signature dining tends to move at a little slower pace, but Flying Fish has usually worked us through courses pretty fast.

Hmm I can't help with if it's worth 2 table service on the dining plan because we don't do that.
It is expensive so I guess it is - you could check out the menu here and see what the cost of your meal would be to evaluate if it's worth it. The menu does change though. But it should be similar in price to what you are seeing now

We're going back again this year.

And we have 4 children! They were very nice to my kids. Treated them kindly and treated us even better. Really it was a wonderful meal. (although I was peaed to death in my risotto it had about a million peas in it- a little too much for my taste)
He'll be fine.

I used to like the Flying Fish but last time I was there, I thought it wasn't so great compared to the other signature restaurants and the kids weren't too impressed either. If you're taking kids and want fine dining Jiko in Animal Kingdom Lodge, or California Grill in Contemporary would be a bit more entertaining for little ones and the food is better.

But it depends whether you think your two year old would sit through a fancy meal. My kids are older but when they were that small, I used to use sitter from Fairy Godmothers to go to those places. Maybe you'd want to do something like that, or do an early dinner - say 5.30pm.

* Sorry - I read this wrong- thought you said two. A 12 year old would be fine at any of those restaurants. But for two dining credits - CG, or Jiko would definitely be better choices.

I have been to FF many times with my children (who are now 15 and 9), most recently two months ago. They enjoy the restaurant very much and are always excited to go back.

ITA. Our girls are younger than that, but they enjoy going there, and are excited when they find out out we are going back.

I don't think any signature restaurant is worth two credits unless you are on the deluxe plan.

I have to agree with that. I've worked the math before, based on how we value the DDP credits, and I haven't found any signature restaurant being worth burning 2TS credits, unless you just have extras to spare (like on the Deluxe plan).

Its one of the reasons we don't do the DDP - it isn't really a deal if you do signature dining, unless you are going to eat "extra" table service meals.

Although another option is to pay out of pocket for your signature dining, and use your "extra" meal for a character breakfast or breakfast or lunch on departure day.

I'll have to agree that signature dining is not a value on any of the dining plans.

FF is our current fave of Disney's signatures.

Can't help with the DDP thing, but FF is one of our favorite spots. In fact, that's exactly where we are in the photo--enjoying a meal at the FF bar!!
And it's fine for kids.

I hate hyjacking threads, so if anyone wants to comment on Flying Fish versus another signature restaurant, please stop by my thread AFTER commenting here (good DIS etiquette at work here :goodvibes).
