Flying Fish August 3rd New Menu Posted

Got all excited to see that the FF would be open for my next trip in September. Rushed to make reservation. Then looked at the menu and found the snapper gone. My all time favorite of any signature restaurant is no more. So that's me done. Very sad. Oh well I'm never on the dining plan so that's around $300 saved which was what my last meal there cost. I just loved that dish. So different, and it blew me away.

I want the old menu back. Damn, the appetizers have changed now too.

All personal opinion - I'm not right, you aren't wrong....

For my wife and I? We won't be going here. I see a dearth of shellfish. Where is the Alaskan King Crab? Serious Lobster? Mussels, Cockles, Clams, Abalone ?

There is FISH, and SHELLFISH. Sadly, I see FISH , little SHELLFISH :(. We will wait (and see) if the new Fulton's / Paddlefish menu allows us to get as much SHELLFISH as our wallet desires :).

For now? Based on that menu - zero interest.

Again, All personal opinion - I'm not right, you aren't wrong....

This was our favourite must do restaurant - but the steak and snapper are both gone, and those were our favourite items. We're going to give it a try and keep an open mind later this month, only because we are on free dining so it's a good chance to try it out. But on first glance we're really disappointed with the the new menu.

As a Beach Club DVC member I had the good fortune of discovering the hidden magic of the Flying Fish Cafe on our first trip to Beach Club. Since then it has been our family's favorite restaurant. The charbroiled steak and the potato crusted snapper individually were great but the combo was the best meal in Disney World. Now it's all gone. Words can't describe how sickened I am by this decision. The beauty of Disney is that while the real world changes, you can count on the Disney to stay true to itself and not change. It may evolve but the staples all remain unchanged. The great rides are the same for my kids as they were when I was a kid. They have ruined the best restaurant in WDW. I know they added more space which equals more money but they lost the ambiance. I loved everything about the Flying Fish and now it has gone the way of the 20,000 leagues under the sea ride. Goodbye Flying Fish...hello Narcoossee's. It's a sad day for Disney. I think we'll be spending more time at Universal in the future. Too bad.

We've eaten at Flying Fish numerous times and enjoyed it. I'm really excited, though, to try the new menu and the Abracadabar! The restaurant looks beautiful and if the food is as good as it used to be, it looks like a slam dunk. I actually like the direction they are taking with the lounges and restaurants attached to each other. We did Nomad Lounge plus Tiffins on our last trip and to be able to check into Tiffins, give them my cell number, then go have an amazing drink at Nomad while we waited for our text was awesome. We hope to do the same at Flying Fish/Abracadabar. IMHO, these changes are for the good. We already had the good fortune of having ice cream at Ample Hills on our last trip and it was outstanding! All of these enhancements just add to the fun of the Boardwalk!

For those of you who watch/listen to the Dis Unplugged, Pete and some of the gang ate there last night for the opening. They gave it rave reviews. The video they put up looks like it is amazing

For those unhappy about the snapper, understandable, but some reactions seem a bit dramatic.

Just caught the DIS review and his looks out of this world phenomenal! I have to keep this reservation for our December trip. I was going to cancel it in order to do Le Cellier and now I'm totally torn. So now the hard part is what signature to cancel in order to do this on our December trip? Le Cellier, California Grill or Tiffin's? Don't want to cancel Tiffins so it's either Le Cellier or CG. Nooooo! I have a feeling it may be CG which I have never tried but I also have never tried FF.

some reactions seem a bit dramatic.

What would Disney fan sites, and the DISboards in particular, be without falling-to-one's-knees, shaking-fists-at-heaven drama? It seems particularly bad when it comes to restaurants. Every tiny change is the worst thing since the Bataan Death March. Worse-er, even. Disney should roll out fainting couches along the Boardwalk and sell strings of pearls for clutching.

I went Saturday night. The new look is stunning, and after the first course I forgot the old menu. Being a truly low-wattage intellect, I lack the mental alacrity to put my thoughts in a justified and ordered list, but: if what I ate was end product of the "dinning" plan driving quality ingredients into the misty past, long live the dining plan.

Disclosure: I have never used the "dinning" plan, nor am I ever likely to do so.

A friend of mine did for her part of the tab. I suppose you're asking because of the discount. We both have Tables in Wonderland so neither of us thought to ask.

Thanks. Yeah...TIW trumps the Visa. Glad you enjoyed the meal. We are there next Monday for "dinning"
