flying from nashville to san juan(two flights)
1)can you wear shorts, a nice short sleeve shirt, and tennis shoes without looking stupid?

2)if the flight is getting a snack, what should i expect in first class

thanks for the info!

You can wear what you want. Mostly, I've seen business attire and Sunday clothes on other employee tickets like myself. Just imagine that around you. If you feel comfortable wearing what you described, then you're fine. I hope the shorts aren't cut-off jeans or anything like that. That and a T-shirt would look out of place.

As for the snack, I can't really say. Chances are, it will b a light meal. Airlines have made lots of changes to their meal/snack services in recent years. Changes vary a lot from one carrier to another.

Enjoy San Juan....:D

No dress code for first class. Since you are flying to San Juan, I think nice shorts would be fine.

You will get full meals instead of snacks. Linen on the trays. Real glass glasses, china instead of plastic dishes, small salt and pepper shakers instead of the packets.

Oh, and booze. Lots of booze. All free. Other non-alcoholic beverages available too.

I always check out the look of people in first class while I'm on my way back to coach:( To me, it looks like anything goes. Certainly the airline doesn't care(they got their bucks). The one time I got to fly first class(Denver to San Diego) I had a bottle of some nice red wine.:D

I will agree... I flew first class back from Florida one time and I was wearing shorts and a t-shirt... some will not find that appropriate but I think that's what everyone in 1st class had on ;) The nicest thing about 1st class, to me, is getting a beverage before the plane takes off. I flew 1st class out to DC one time in the winter after just getting over a cold and my throat still hurt... was very nice to have a steady stream of hot tea to drink. Oh and btw on that trip, I wore jeans, tennish shoes and a t-shirt on the plane.

If they give you a hot towel it's to wipe your face and hands. If it's a Friday nght, everyone will be getting drunk.

Then I've been terribly out of place before. LOL I used to fly back and forth between Tennessee and St. Louis frequently for work. I would be wearing work boots, faded jeans, and a t-shirt to hop a flight back home. Hopefully, I remembered to knock most of the mud off first. We were flying back and forth so much that we were bumped to first class when there was room so I never knew when I'd be in 1st or coach.

The hot wet towels are nice and the upgraded snacks are great when you haven't had a chance to eat. My favorite is just the extra ROOM.

When was the last time you flew in 1st class? LOL, most of those niceties are long gone. I am a VFF and fly in 1st quite a bit and I can tell you that the experience varies wildly. In fact, there was just a great article on this in the WSJ last Tuesday.

Sometimes you get a pre-flight beverage. Sometimes not. That depends on the flight attendants, the aircraft, the airline & the airport. (No variables there, huh??)

Sometimes you get a full meal when the rest of the plane gets a snack. Sometimes you just get a bigger snack. Sometimes you get what coach gets. See above for the variables.

I haven't seen a hot towel on a domestic flt. since after Sept. 11. I got one on one int'l flight. Not sure how they classify San Juan.

I have never gotten noise cancelling headsets.

The one thing you will get is a bigger seat - and that's what makes it all worth it!

If you really want to learn about your airline, go to http://www.flyertalk.com/milesfr.shtml and look at your airline.

goofyme - what airline are you flying? I can give you some specifics if you'll let me know. No matter what, it will be better than coach.

Have a great trip.
