Flying & Ear Problems

I was wondering if anyone else has REALLY bad ear problems when flying? My ears are in pain pretty much the whole flight. Does anyone have any suggestions for what to do about this? Chewing gum and swallowing does NOT work. One of my coworkers said to take some Sudafed starting a day before I fly and that will decongest me. Anyone know any other sollutions??

You may want to check out Earplanes (http://www.cirrushealthcare.com/earplanes.htm). They are a little expensive ($22 for 4), but may be worth it if it relieves the pain for you.

Definitely get the earplanes. Worked great for me. You can buy that at your local supermarket, walgreens, eckerd, etc....

i have complete ear pain, i do the sudafed and the earplanes, have been using earplanes for 3 years now, my whole family uses them, we all have a great flight and no ear troubles, they are avaiable at walmart too. they have others that are called "flents" these seem to fit in your ear better. they only cost about $6. hope this helps!

as per ENT specialist's directions: DD (who has had tubes in ears) & I (chronic ear probs) take a decogestant about 1 hour before flight.
heard great things about earplanes, i just like sleeping the whole flight, & waking up when we're there.

Ditto the Earplanes.

You can usually get a 3-pack on www.drugstore.com for $9.99 or $10.99 which is cheaper than even Wal Mart or Target.

I always use Earplanes. I get them at WalMart for about $4 a pair.

Same here!!! Earplanes are wonderful and one pair can be used for roundtrip flight. I usually buy them at Walmart (very inexpensive).

EarPlanes worked wonders for my daughters on our last flight to Orlando. In fact my oldest daughter also has trouble when we drive home from the High Sierras (we come down 4-5,000 feet in about an hour's time) and wore them for the drive home, and they changed last year's tear-inducing pain to mild discomfort. I highly recommend them based on their experiences.

I have also, pre EarPlanes, given them Motrin about 90 minutes before landing. That helped a bit, but not as much as the EarPlanes.

I am going to ditto what everyone said. EarPlanes!! I never fly without them! Another added benefit is they filter out some of the noise!!

I'll have to try those Ear Planes next time. The doctor told me to take Claritin serveral hours before flying and that worked for me.
