We want to bring packs of bottled water on our upcoming trip. I realize it would have to be checked and we're flying SWA so we have free checked bags and I'm aware of the 50 pound weight limit. Has anyone ever done this? Do you have any packing tips for me? Should I put the water in a duffle bag or something similar by itself for the journey? How would you pack it or am I crazy for trying? THANKS!

why not just use a grocery delivery service and have a couple of cases of water delivered?

I've thought about this, but since we have the extra allotted baggage that we won't use otherwise, I thought I'd spare the extra expense of delivery.

The problem you will have is that water bottles are heavy. How will you make sure you don't exceed the weight limit, or pack them so that they don't leak in flight?

THe weight part I can handle, but avoiding the leaking is my question too. Has anyone done this successfully or unsuccessfully? I've seen posts of people carrying frozen food, so I'm wondering if water could be successfully brought.

Please be considerate of other folks flying with you and don't pack a case of water that might leak on their luggage.

I have an idea.. Why not put the water bottles in a plastic tote box with some bubble wrap and place the toter in a duffle bag. Then on your return home use the bubble wrap to wrap your suveniors and place the inside the toter to prevent damage.

Or if you want here is what I have done. I take a bag,(duffle) with me and hop on the DTD bus. When the bus stops at the 2nd DTD bus stop get off. Walk across the street to the Hess gas station and buy a case of water there. Put it in the duffle bag. Walk
back across the street get on the bus going to your resort. The walk to the Hess station takes 5 minutes.

Hubby and I go to Hess to get the water and to grab a slice of pizza and a soda. Go outside sit on the curb enjoy our very cheap meal then go back inside to pick up soda and water to take back to our resort. Hess sells hot fresh pizza, hot dogs, nacho's, fruit, cappachino, laundry soap, water, soda, donuts, coffee cakes, ect. And it is so easy to get to!!!

You're right. No matter how I package them, they may burst. SO, I guess my next question is ME and Garden Grocer or rent a town car?

Hess is a good idea too.

Ok, don't laugh too hard but yes, I flew in my case of water. I bought it sealed up tight for about $3 for the case of 24. Then I just checked it with a sticker with my name on it. TSA teased me beyond belief about checking a case of water but it was delivered to our hotel and was just fine.

I don't bother with putting it in bags etc as they bottles are great when in the shrink wrap they come packed in.

I plan to bring a case with us on our DL trip since we are SWA.
