Flying and using Liquid Detergent

I had been buying the detergent when I stopped at Albertson's, but I love ALL detergent, and they only sell me a huge bottle, like $10 worth!

So has anyone tried flying with a small liquid bottle of detergent, and were the results good or disasterous.

I know that there is powder, and tablets, but I really prefer the liquid.

Opinions, Please.

I invested a couple of bucks in Nalgene small bottles to put my liquid laundry detergent and stain treatment in. They advertise that they are guaranteed leakproof. I have never had a problem with them even though they have been around the world a few times.

Magellan's sells a set of 6 bottles in various sizes for under $10. REI has a good selection as well. It is great to travel with only as much detergent as I need and know they will not leak and destroy anything in my luggage.

Be sure not to overfill the bottles before a flight in case the product expands during temperature changes. I also keep all bottles in good zip lock bags. It helps to keep them organized as well as providing an extra layer of protection.

I always travel with bath gel, shampoo and conditioner and never have spills. I don't know why liquid detergent should be any different. I used to carry a small bottle of dishwashing soap for hand washing and never had a problem.

I put my dish washing detergent in an empty 35 mm film case. If you don't have one you may be able to get one for free at a film processing place. The lid snaps on tight. I also use those cases for other small liquid items as well. Of course, I don't wash too many dishes when I'm on vacation, and the small size is just right for travel. I put them in baggies just to make sure there is no problem, but I have never had one open up in flight.
