I am not sure where to POST this THREAD but I know so many of you on DIS will know the answer to this question as I forget from year to year...here goes...when traveling with my 35mm camera (yes, I still have a 35mm) do I put my undeveloped, unused film in my carry-on or in my suitcase? And then on the way home, my USED film, what do I do with that....UGH...!!! :scared1:

I always put both (developed and undeveloped) in my carry-on bag in one of the bags (? name of bag) from Wolfe photo that protects the film and have never had a problem.

Since checked luggage is subject to very powerful x-ray machines, you do not want to put film in the checked luggage.

my last trip dec 2004 ,i brought 400 speed and no problems at all went thru xray machine fine,,and have 18 rolls of pics ,check there web site for answers on film,,,,,

Put them in your carry-on.

I put film in my suitcase one time and was fortunate that I did not use that film on our trip - it was all ruined.

THANKS FOR ALL THE REPLIES: I did as one of the POSTERS suggested and went on ORLANDO Airport's web-site under FAQ's and found a section on FILM!!!

The answer is: ALL film: undeveloped or developed should ALL go in your carry-on. SO THAT IS THAT ON THAT!! Put your film in your CARRY-ON!!!!

THANKS EVERYONE!!!! ::yes::

If you are especially worried about it you can take it in your carry on and ask that they hand check it. Sometimes they are nice about it sometimes they are not. When we went to Oregon for my brother's wedding I had them hand check all the film coming home. I told them it was something i could not replace and a very nice lady checked it for me. :goodvibes Whatever you do don't leave it in the bags you check in.

I learned the lesson the hard way this past week. Brought a disposable camera to the marathon because I didn't want to run with my digital. Then DH and my son used it on their fishing trip because I was afraid the digital would go overboard or something :rolleyes:
I excitedly went to pick up my film a few days ago and not a single picture came out. The technician at the store asked if there was a chance I had it in checked luggage. I answered yes and she said, "that's what did it. The x-ray machines ruined it." Very disappointing :(

As a previous poster replied use one of those x-ray film bags. I am not sure where you get them but I have seen plenty since I am one of the people who inspects this stuff. I always take film and cameras in my carry-on. If you check it there is a good chance it will be ruined. The x-rays at the passenger checkpoint are not harmful to film under 800 speed. But if you want all you have to do is ask that it be hand checked.
