Fly or Drive?

I have driven the 4 times I have gone down to florida
I like it. I will be flying on my next trip from Buffalo via Southwest.

I think the drive adds to the excitment and road trips are always fun

We drive to Florida, and love it, but we only did that once to visit my SIL in Tennessee. For that, we're flying SWA out of Buffalo this summer. Somehow, driving to TN isn't the same as driving to FL, even though it's only a little more than half the distance. Of course, I wouldn't stay as long in Nashville as I do in Florida either.

The 6 of us always fly out of Buffalo - way tooo long to drive to Florida!

We love getting on a plane at 7:15 a.m. and being in the Florida sun by 10:00 a.m.

Not sure about the poster who said customs was a hassle?? Flying out of Buffalo you do not have to clear customs - that is the nice and easy part of flying out of the states - NO CUSTOMS! We get off the plane, grab our luggage and we are off.

The only time you have to stop for customs is when you cross the bridge going to and from the states - and that is way more relaxing than in a line in an airport.

We have driven from Barrie twice and we will be doing it again in Sept. Drove through Buffalo and the scenery was nice. Drove thru mountains in West Virginia. We left around 8am stopped in South Carolina (Rockhill) Found an inexpensive hotel. Next morning took our time and stopped in Daytona so the kids could go in the ocean. By the time we got to Disney it was around 3pm. Drive was fine. Second time we took turns driving so we could drive straight thru. We left Barrie around noon and got to WDW around 10am. Nothing like driving into florida with the sun coming up. We drive down because it is cheaper for a family of 5 then to fly. My husband and I enjoy driving and this way we get to bond with our kids. I know that flying is faster but everytime I check to see how much it will cost for us to fly it is way more than driving down. So the money I save for driving down I can spend on other things like souveniers or a character meals. It all depends on which way you look at it.

We have never paid more than $75 US return for our flights, so for that money - even with a family of 6 - it is not much more to fly down.

We always fly now .I am getting to old for the long drive. Those Tractor trailers scare me big time/ Got hit by one in 1999. Flown ever since.

we have driven twice, and are driving again this fall. The closest major airport is 3 hours away, so any flight would also include a hotel stay. We have priced it out several times, and found flying, after taxes, etc, much more expensive. We pack snacks for the first day, and eat breakfast at the hotel, so the 'additional' meals aren't a big deal.

We spent $250 on gas, $200 on hotels, and $100 on food.
Tickets to fly, were $800 (incl. taxes), a hotel the night before $120. $40 for meals, and $40 for gas.
$450 less, and we don't have to rent a car.

I also enjoy the drive. As far as times. To fly out of Buffalo in the morning, we have to leave here the evening before, and arrive in Florida around noon the second day. When we drive, we leave early in the morning, and arrive at Disney, shortly after lunch on the second day. We sacrifice half a day, on the first day. As far as mileage, the difference in vehicle value for a car with 120 000 km compared to one with 145 000 is minimal.
