I have to tell you- the idea of getting out of bed, showering and getting dressed really stresses me out. I always stumble down the stairs, have my coffee and Dis before I shower.

I have seen others on here talk about FlyLady- does it really work?? I need to declutter and keep on top of things.

lol!! I tried fly lady before and well lets just say it didn't last very long. :rotfl2: What got me was trying to keep my sink clean and shiney :faint: . I just couldn't keep up!! lol

And those emails. I got frustrated weeding through all of those emails. Uggggg!!

I have not fully immersed in FLyLady but do a lot of their small tips. One of the things that works for me is to have a time limit. I'll do 30 minutes of someting and stop. It helps me focus and I can get tons of stuff done, then go away for awhile and then another 30 minutes etc. I dont get up and shower and put on shoes. I hate shoes. :rotfl:

I've said before I'm a FlyLady flunky. :rotfl2: It just stresses me out too much.

Hi. I was thinking about joinging too. Does anyone know how often you get emails? We are redecorating our home and just started on the kitchen, this takes LONG and want to get organized. I am feeling a little crazy  at times.

I don't know how you're supposed to get anything done when you get 5,000 emails telling you how to get things done!

I'm also a fly lady flunkie.

She has some great ideas. That said, I am not a member. I was... now I have her zone work as my home page. I don't get any e-mails but I am reminded to do something every time I turn on the computer.

What helped me out was to learn how quickly I could do some of the jobs that I hate doing. I hate to unload the dishwasher! I now know that I can do the job in less than 5 min. :hourglass I don't put it off as much now because I know I will be done in only 5.

I pick and choose what I do. I do not get dressed to the shoes first thing every day. I probably should, but I don't. In general I don't wear shoes in the house--I'm a slippers kind of person. :) But I do use the timer a lot. That's been the biggest help and I get a lot more done when I set the timer for 15 minutes, work, and then take a break. As long as I know I'm going to get a break, I work a lot harder and get more done. That's been the biggest benefit that I've gotten from it. Also, I keep to a rough schedule of cleaning. It's not set in stone and not the Flylady schedule, but one that I've figured out that works for me.

I need to get flying full circle again. The e-mails are mostly testimonials - they can be annoying but also can be inspiring. The reminders are fine though. Unless I have time, I ignore the essays. I would suggest doing the baby steps and that will take you a long way. The hard part for me is the weekly homeblessing - if I miss that I feel like a failure (bad me)...and it's so easy to do with a toddler putting his hands all over the windows and in the bucket as your mopping.

I could tell you the morning routine has become second nature to me, I'm more organized even though the floor isn't always shining (yet), and I LOVE decluttering. You can do it! I never thought of myself as a perfectionist because nothing in my house looks perfect, but I am. I wouldn't clean anything unless I had time to do a very very thorough cleaning. As Flylady says "it's the perfectionism that gets you into the mess in the first place." Good luck!

I tried to do FlyLady. A positive thing I got from it was to keep your sink "shiny". Meaning that if you don't have dirty dishes sitting out you feel better and get more done. It is true.

A problem I had with Flylady (other than the emails) was it did not work with my house. I have too many rooms, hairy dogs, and lots of dust. The running around quick to the bathrooms doesn't work if you have 4 of them and 2 dd's that are 10 & 15.

However I am on Organized Home where there is a forum, more support and lots of great ideas. You can do both!:thumbsup2

I tried it too and could not keep up! I'd never sit down if I cleaned like that everyday. Like everyone else the only tip that stuck was the shiny sink. Funny that we all kept that one thing to do. The emails were a PITA like someone else mentioned too.

Good Luck, just don't drown in the emails. :rotfl2:

I just joined a few days ago and am still a little overwhelmed. Hey Mermaid, I redid my morning routine. :) I get up, shower, put on clothes/warm jammies, coffee and DIS, THEN do the other stuff :) I have to be awake and functioning to actually FLY, know what I mean?

Me, too, but it takes me about 2 hours to actually wake up! :rotfl:

I did the FlyLady thing for about seven months, but finally I unsubscribed because the e-mail was overwhelming. My poor DH would lose track of what was there because he was wading through all the FlyLady e-mail! She has some great ideas and a lot of it really works, but I found there was too much that just didn't work for those us of who work 8-5 five days a week. Between work and shuttling the kids to all their activities after work, I couldn't manage to keep up.

The tip I took away was not be be a perfectionist. I too used to not even start if I didn't have time to do a thorough job. I never have time, so things look bad quick, then I would give up weekends trying to catch up. It was awlful. I have to continually tell myself sweep, even though you don't have time to mop etc. I used to not wipe kids finger marks off the window if I didn't have time to REALLY wash the windows in and out. Now I'm hitting the finger marks before I go to bed. It looks better, you feel better.

I used to take forever to clean a bathroom. I had this whole kill every germ thing in my head. When complaining to my friend about how hard it was for me to keep up on bathrooms she said, "They aren't operating rooms, they are bathrooms" For some reason, that really gave me focus. Now I'm a big bathroom toucher-up-er, the bathroom always looks good, and I'm now spening an hour in there everyweek scrubbing.
