Fly Home Friday or Saturday?

Hi everyone? This question comes down to pts. vs. possible airline savings.

I will be making a ressie for Thanksgiving, 11-17 to Fri. 11-26. Six of us are traveling.

I'm planning on flying SWA from SFO to MCO and from what I see, usually a plane ticket is a bit cheeper to fly back on a Saturday. Should I stay an extra day (besides having a fun extra day) and use the points (which would high because it's Fri. night during Magic Season) to take advantage of the possible lower airfare? or Just head out on Friday and save my points? Which would you choose or have chosen in the past?

I hope you have a reservation already for those dates at your home resort. You may have a hard time getting anything.

I always vote for the extra day of vacation, unless it will affect future trips that you are already planning. But like Deb & Bill said, you might have problems adding on the extra day. I'd call MS first before making your flight reservations.

We have taken 4 Thanksgiving week trips. One we drove. NIGHTMARE GOING HOME that Saturday.

Anyway...we have flown home on Thanksgiving night. HATED THAT ONE. Cheaper airfare though. We have also flown home on Friday and Saturday. It does get crowded about a day or two before Thanksgiving so we always fly in the Thursday before Thanksgiving and head out the day after or for sure on Saturday. I guess you will have to decide on saving points or saving bucks. If it were me.......I would fly home on Saturday. I am all about STAYING AS LONG AS POSSIBLE. IF you want to fly home on Friday you will probably get a cheaper airfare and save Sat. points. I have been there and done that. I am of NO HELP. LOL Our last trip in Nov. was 08 and we flew home on Friday.

Thanks for sharing...in a convoluted way it DOES help. I'm guessing it will be crazy busy either way. I'm going to try and include the Friday night and then wait for the airfare to come out...and then make a final decision. And I do want to hear from what other DVCer's have done.

We were able to get SSR when I called late Sept. It may have been a fluke but I bet you will at least get SSR or OKW at 7 months out.

Well, good luck then. Hope you get something. OKW and SSR are wonderful resorts if that is all that is available when you hit 7 months out. OKW is especially good for a group of six.
