Having been to Florida last year we are already planning our next trip in 2005.This time we may have a villa for 2 weeks so we need a fly drive.Has anyone flown with Travel City direct, would you reccomend them.Ive also looked at the new Birmingham service Flyblu but it dosent seem to include a car. Any Reccomendations would be welcome.
Many thanks in advance

We flew with TCD in August 2003 from Manchester & they were fine. They were the cheapest i could find for direct flights.

The plane was an older one - no seatback TV but staff were great. We flew on time & got to Florida early.

By the way we didn't take out car hire with them. We got a better deal from our villa company.

We always book villa and flights separately. My advice is to phone around for quotes - both fly-drive and flights only. We find it's normally cheaper to book the flights and car hire independently of one another, but not always. For our July trip, we've booked fly-drives (Virgin Premium Economy) for around £680 + tax through Virgin Travelstore (including 2 weeks car hire and fully inclusive insurance package). We have found that they seem to be consistently cheaper than most other places (they were even cheaper this time than using our Flying Club 'Miles Plus Money' option), but again, not always. We have also booked through Expedia and Flightbookers.

The trick is to persevere and keep phoning around. We've found that phoning seems to bring up better deals than we can find online.

Virgin Travelstore is a travel agent, btw, so you can book anything through them, not just Virgin flights/packages.

My experience has been that by the time you pay the insurance and "extras" for the car on a "fly-Drive" it's cheaper to book flight and car seperately using an "all inclusive" car hire rate.

Whenever I've compared flydrive prices v. flight-only plus seperate car hire I've always found that flydrive is cheaper providing you decline the tour operator's own insurance and use an independent policy such as that provided by American Express (part of its annual travel insurance) or Natwest (available to its credit card customers).

Rob

Yes, I took a fly-drive package with Travel City Direct in 1999, flying from Glasgow. The flights were with Britannia going out and Continental on the way back, with a change at New York. They were fine, but not the best flights I've ever had - not enough leg room and meals weren't that great, but great value.

The car hire was fine too, although it's true you probably will get cheaper doing them seperately.
