Fly Drive Question

Hi,
I am planning to book a flight to Orlando shortly with Travelcity Direct and would like to know if there was a way round getting the flight without taking the car option or paying a penalty for not taking it as I would like to book my own transport elsewhere.Hope someone can help.

You could just not pick the car up. But, if the realise they may apply a penalty.

I've heard others say that you just don't pick up the [included] hire car. It seems a fairly regular thing to do and there should be no penalty. I'm sure someone who has actually done this will post soon.

I've just booked a fly drive and would have saved about £40 if I'd arranged my own car but it did say in the booking blurb that the offer was dependant on me taking gold insurance on the hire car

Not done this with Travelcity but have twice done this with Virgin and no consequences were incurred, just went off and collected the cheaper car that I had hired

I think the original poster is asking whether he/she can book a fly-drive with TCD and drop the expensive insurance. Then book a rental through a seperate company.

With Virgin, you can book a fly drive without buying their expensive insurance. With TCD it appears that you can't drop the insurance bit, as this is the portion of the holiday they probably make thier money on.

I would think at a push, they would probably drop it with some sort of "administration fee".

We booked a fly-drive with Virgin and they have confirmed that we do not have to pick up the car.

I had this same arguement with TCD as I didn't want to take the insurance, as it was cheaper to book elsewhere and they charge an extra fee on top for flight only bookings!! In the end TCD said they would drop the insurance but I would have to fax confirmation of my own insurance to them - I went to Virgin!!!!
