Who's getting their's early this year? I missed out on getting mine last winter because I waited too long. Then I got the flu twice and stayed sick all winter basically. Plan on getting mine in the next few weeks. Who else has already thought about it?

You don't want to get it too early because they haven't identified the strain that's making the rounds - they've got vaccines for the anticipated strains

My Mother gives out flu shots and she says late Oct/Early Nov is the best time.

DH and I will be taking our two DS's to the ped as soon as he gets the supply.

I haven't gotten the flu shot in a few years. I think the first year that it was in short supply, I didn't get it. I probably won't get it this year either. My Mom, on the other hand, gets hers every year. In fact, she had an appt last Friday to get hers. The doctor's office made the appt, then we get there and they say it hasn't come in yet! I will make sure that I call them to re-schedule AFTER they actually receive it!

Never got a flu shot and have NEVER had the flu! :D

Wish I could say that. My mom is the same way, in all my 24 years I've never seen her sick in bed.

Late Oct/early Nov is indeed the correct time. It doesn't matter at this point if an odd strain emerges, what is in the vial now is what you will get, no matter when you get it. The good news is, its been a relatively mild flu season in the southern hemisphere, which is a predictor.

My DH's work provides flu vaccs free for staff & very cheap for family members. So, we are planning on having it done at DH's office in October.

VERY smart business move. ::yes:: Less employees gone due to sick days for themselves or kids. Not everyone takes advantage of it though. They are scared of the needle I guess. I'd rather have the second of pain from a small needle than a week of "talking to China on the big white phone"!!!

My boyfriend has always been the.. "Never got the flu shot, never got sick" and then there was last year.

Two bouts of the flu (he really never recovered so it was more like a relapse) bronchitis and shingles from the flu!

He learned! LOL!

I can't get a flu shot because of egg allergy, but DH always gets one. A couple of years ago, he didn't get one, and we both got a really bad case of flu!

I've never gotten a flu shot although I did get the flu about 6 years ago. None of us (DH, DD and I) will be getting the flu shot this year. We're not in any of the risk groups.

Got one once and never again - it gave me the flu. That was about 6 years ago - haven't had one since and haven't had the flu since.

I always get a flu shot (I used to work in a health center so while it wasn't mandatory, it was highly encouraged for all employees to get one). I'm hoping they will be bringing a visiting nurse in to give them at the office again this year--my company pays when they do.

You can't get the flu from a flu shot. You probably caught a different strain than what you got vaccinated against.

DH used to trick me into getting one (HATE needles!), but taking me to the grocery store. He had already pre-paid for the shot, so I was committed. It didn't hurt! Now, we both get one every year at least 2 weeks prior to our annual WDW trip. So this time it needs to be middle Oct.
I swear by the flu shot!

Another one who's never gotten the shot and never had the flu. Knock on wood it stays that way.

Should I since both my DBF and sister have asthma?

Probably. The CDC recommends that healthy people ages 3-55 (I might be a little off on the age range) only get the shot if they work in a high risk field (healthcare, daycare) and/or they are in close contact with someone in a high risk group (I believe this includes those with asthma).

DH gets his thru work, DD12 and DD9 and I get ours at a little local drugstore that has an old fashioned soda fountain instore. They give you free ice cream after your shot. The girls don't mind at all LOL !
