Flu Shot

I had my flu shot three weeks before my Moderna booster. And I still had a similar reaction to that half dose. I did feel a lot better on the second day but not really back to myself until the following day.

My DH had the two Pfizer shots and had nothing like the side effects I had with my second moderna and booster shot. He's getting the moderna booster next Friday. I'm interested to see if it hits him like it hit me, or if it's just how our bodies react differently. Like I said, my sisters had very similar side effects and length of side effects as me....so maybe it's genetic? Who knows...I'm just hoping that's the last of the boosters for awhile. For me, and many others you definitely have to plan when to get these shots...because at least in my situation, it would really tough to handle my regular work day.

They didn't for us and we went through CVS. When we've done the clinic from my husband's work you didn't get a print out either (which was not through CVS). I would imagine many places don't actually do a receipt. The only time I have ever gotten a print out of possible side effects was the covid vaccine. Back when I had Gardasil didn't have that either (other than a card that had the schedule for the other 2 doses), didn't have paper with with Tdap.

We did hear what we were getting for the flu shot this year verbally and I can look up this in my CVS account. It shows afluria quad.

Last year though honestly have no idea what I got. I know you can always ask though.
Follow up wherever you got the vaccine and ask for a prescription receipt, the shot has a prescription number and that number should be discoverable.
When I sit in a chair I ask to see the vial and I nearly always take a photo of it. No-one has ever given me a hard time about it.

So, my son did get his monoclonal antibody on Tuesday. The doctors said it probably would not kick in for about 2 days and then he should start feeling a bit more decent. I talked to him yesterday, still really under the weather. Headache, temperature, congested lungs, no taste/smell. I talked to him twice today, early afternoon and just now. He sounded much improved earlier today and even more so tonight. He said he has a little, very little taste back, no smell though.

As for me, since I had been with him last week on Monday, I did a quick home test on Tuesday, negative. I did a PCR test yesterday, results today, negative.

So, that's the update from here. Thank you for your good thoughts, words, wishes and prayers.

So sorry to hear what your son has been through Dan! But glad he's on the mend and that you're negative. When I got my moderna booster on Friday I was chatting with the pharmacist. I asked how he was doing and he said he was just back to work after a mild covid breakthrough case. I told him I was sorry to hear that he ended up getting a breakthrough case, and he said..."it was better than the week I spent in the hospital last year". He avoided a ventilator, but needed O2 support. He said pretty much everyone at the pharmacy had gotten covid. I mean, I guess that's not surprising for frontline workers like pharmacists and pharmacy techs, but those of us who are able to work from home and avoid the public in general if we so choose....really appreciate people like them....and people like your son.

Got my Moderna booster on Friday. Exactly the same as my 2nd shot: nothing for the first 24 hours, then a 102 fever, nausea, chills and a headache (last time it was a full blown migraine). Felt totally fine when I woke up this morning. It’s going to be very unpleasant if we end up having to get these boosters every 6 months, but better that than covid!!

That's really interesting. Not hearing too much out there on repeat infections. I participate on another forum with active COVID discussions and there is a certainty on the part of some posters that natural infection is the way to go and it's a "one and done." I've read a bit about repeat infections but not enough to know what's what with it. I'll just add your little tidbit of information to the file in my brain on this subject!

Was talking to my SIL yesterday who is a nurse. She said that our fami,y doesn‘t need to rush and get the booster because we had covid, but said to definitely get the flu shot this year. Her hospital only has 3 covid patients, so that’s good.

Same for my younger sister and her husband....they both have covid and got the moderna vaccine and so they're going to wait on the advice of their doctor. Everyone else in my family...siblings, teens, parents are all vaxxed and boosted....so, onward we go :)

Got my Moderna booster yesterday before lunch. Woke up around midnight shivering, and then feeling super hot. I've been alternating between hot and cold even now and I've had aches all over my body throughout the day. I had previously received Pfizer and after my second Pfizer dose I felt mostly the same as I am now.

Just to follow up on this several days later. The following day he did have some body aches and was tired. But not too tired to spend the day out running around. So really much better than he did with the original J&J shot.

Our 28 year old son just got his Pfizer booster today (he also got J&J last March). Here's hoping he has a similarly minor reaction.

Actually just came back on this board because I know people would be talking about the booster effects. <3 I'm getting a moderna booster tomorrow, my J&J knocked me out for 2 days!! Hopefully I My mom says after 2 weeks, I can then get the flu shot for this year. Hoping for the best although I'm expecting to just feel like garbage on Friday. I am always a bit nervous about flu shots after I had a freak reaction but nothing like that since...

My coworker got the J&J and was fairly ill the next day. He got the Moderna vaccine last week (full one, not booster as he's redoing the whole sequence) and he had NOTHING.

I’m about 16 hours past my Moderna booster. Had a sore arm after #1, and #2 hit me like ton of bricks. I’m fatigued and a little nauseous (nerves?) with the booster. Arm is barely sore. I was going to take the day off work, but I feel well enough to work. It’s been about 9 months between #2 and the booster.

Update on my second son to get the Pfizer booster after initial J&J shot. He was tired and very achy yesterday but fine now.

Got the 3rd yesterday, all of us are a bit tired and achy just like with the 1st & 2nd but 24 hours out and it seems milder than the first two.

Flu, Pneumonia & 3rd all on board so we went to the Pru mall in the heart of Boston today, followed all the rules but for the first time in 2 years I felt like it was ok to be around people so it's worth it. Re-registered with Vsafe too.

***FYI, keep an eye on updating recommendations for yourselves and loved ones. I looked at CDC guidelines yesterday and realized that the timing for the 3rd dose for immunocompromised people (there are quite a few categories that get a person on this list) is ok earlier than standard. If you are not sure where you or a loved one lands on the lists ask your Dr., I sort of knew and still asked, no harm in double checking things.
