anyone else had/have this nasty virus??
after getting over sinustis a couple of weeks ago I'm off work now with this viral thing
I don't know what is worse having extreme sweats and shivers or bad bouts of coughing and having to wear tena ladies :lmao::lmao::lmao:

Lol at the tena ladies :lmao:

My 2 youngest kids are both off school this week with it. They have both had incredible high temperatures which have been really hard to lower. DD has got a cough and really tired, but ds 11 has got the cough, cold, heavy/tired bones and is just generally whacked. Dd has perked up a lot today but ds keeps getting a bit better but then his temperature rises and he is back to square one.

Hope your better soon

hope your better soon to :goodvibes

My son has been ill for over 4 weeks now with similar symptoms , so much so he is having blood test to see if he has glandular fever ( which did not show in thd first test ) the doctor did say that there is this horrible virus that shows the same symptoms of glandular fever and pretty much has the same recover time going around . It had effected him so much some days I cant get him out of bed and has caused major isues at school as he is in his last few months and doing his gcse . Hope any obe that has it gets well quickly we where just told to take paracetamol , drinj lots and above all Rest .

Thankfully I didn't feel achy or have any sweats, but in early December I had a dreadful cough which lasted about 6 weeks :(

 Hope you're feeling better soon Jeanette

Its the coughing that is the worst as now all my ribs hurt and chest from constant non productive coughing, even when I go to speak it brings on a coughing bout :sad1: I'm on anti biotics, lemsips, inhaler, lozenges, tickly cough medicine!!! :crazy2: i'm drinking hot water with a dash of lemon, have tried lemon and honey in hot water too,so I think I've tried everything now

I had the same thing before Christmas. The cough lasted 10 weeks, I've never had anything like it before. Hope you feel better soon.

Hope you feel better soon, Jeanette. There are lots of bugs going around at the moment, touch wood I have avoided them even though I'm exposed every day at work

omg ten weeks  i dont think I can go on another day never mind ten weeks, poor you :goodvibes

DD got a cough last July that had her coughing until she threw up. It lasted until November despite 3 different courses of antibiotics :scared1:

I am absolutely 100% certain that she had whooping cough but the doctor refused to give a diagnosis so we will never be sure.

Hope you all feel better soon :grouphug:

I'm currently on a GP placement, and literally every other patient we're seeing is presenting with this horrible virus thing that's going around!!

It's a viral thing, and so we are sending a lot of people away without antibiotics as they'd just do more harm than good with side effects of diarrhoea etc. (sorry, too much information there :rotfl: ) But people who are susceptible to chesty things and smokers, asthmatics etc. etc. then we are seeing them come in with a sort of bacterial infection imposed on top - have been prescribing antibiotics to them, but it's still not shifting in some!

It's definitely a lurker, and we are advising patients that the cough will probably persist for up to eight weeks (although the other symptoms will clear much sooner)! The best advice is to dose up on your paracetamol whilst you're feeling a bit icky and do some inhalations - a bit of menthol-type stuff in some hot water, towel over your head and breathe it all up. Sorry to be crude, but all the catarrh-y, sticky stuff is just sitting there, and it needs to come up - that's what my GP supervisor is recommending!

I hope you guys are starting to feel better soon! I've managed to escape thus far, but the sheer amount of people I'm seeing with it, I just think it's going to be a matter of time... :rotfl:

Take care!!

hope you feel better soon

well I'm over the worst, still have a bit of a cough but not as bad as it was! had out little Charlie here too with more or less the same thing, he went back to school yesterday after a week off, apparently there were 200 kids off with this virus
I'm am back in work tomorrow, sort of looking forward to it and sort of not!

My ds went back to school yesterday after being off for a week. He got really quite poorly and on day 5 I had to take him to the doctor. His temperature kept going sky high and paracetamol wasn't taking it down. He got a weeks worth of antibiotics and is slowly getting better. He is also asthmatic and he is fine when not doing anything physical but as soon as he starts to move, the cough begins and that just floors him. His peak flow has improved though, usually 350 but was down at 220, and it is now back up to 290/300

I got an inhaler too, I'm not asthmatic but used it to open the airwaves.
