My wife and I were strolling around the World Show Case on Saturday evening, 6/3, when I heard the familiar "City of New Orlean's." A smile crept across my face as I realized we were approaching Arlo Guthrie performing at the American Pavillion. We settled in and listened to the rest of his 7 PM set. Arlo and his band finished the set with a long story about drug-sniffing dogs leading into "Coming into Los Angeles"...bringing in a couple of...well, you know the rest. Arlo's 8:15 PM set began with a long story leading into a 15 minute version of "Alice's Restaurant." Anyway, looking around at the crowd, most in their 50's and 60's, you couldn't help but notice the same passive smiles as they sang the all too familiar lyrics. It was 1969 all over again.

:hippie:

Arlo is one of the best of the annual Flower Power performers, and you may have hit the nail right on the head, usually all 3 of his sets each day are completely different.
I would assume that his son and daughter also performed with him?

Would have loved to have seen Arlo Guthrie. Have very fond memories of listening to all of Alice's Restaurant every Thanksgiving (local radio station in Denver played it every year).

I did get to see Guess Who and thought they were great. Lead singer's voice had not changed as sometimes happens with age and they did a great show.

I caught the Guess Who as well, and thought they were phenomonal, and enjoyed the Grass Roots last year. I love coming at this time of year for the Flower Power concerts, they're all so great.

Mike, both Arlo's son and daughter played in the band. They finished the 8:15 PM set with a two verse, unknown Woody Guthrie lyric about "Peace." Arlo wrote the music for the tune.

I saw The Tokens when I went down...I was just in awe! They kept promoting Festival of the Lion King...I suppose it's because they play their smash hit in the show ;)

It was Davy Jones for us! :cloud9: What an absolute blast!!! I wish you could find out early who's going to be performing when because I--seriously!--would base travel dates on it! Aside from Davy, I'd love to see Peter Noone from Herman's Hermits!

We saw Davy Jones too, and we're going to see Peter Noone this weekend!!!!
This was just the way it turned out, I didn't even know the Flower Show would still be there this late in June. Next year it ends earlier.
