Flounder's Booking Question

Our DS is 8 months old and we're looking to book him into Flouder's more than the three times that you're entitled to without having to waitlist.

We have two cabins on the sailing, one is without kids. Do you think they would mind if we booked three per cabin for the same child?

I think since there is an additional cabin, you could do that. You may want to call DCL and ask.

I do not think you will be able to do that.

Everything is on a per-child basis not per cabin basis.

It would make as much scence to allow you "preferential treatment" for having two cabins as it would to give me "preferential treatment" because I have a more expensive cabin than you do (assuming we're all talking about Cat 4-12, there might be some preferential treatment if you are in Cat 3 or above).

Just got home today, and used Flounders quite a bit for our 2 and a half yr old. We were the second on the non-concierege to board last Sat, and my husband took one child, (and I took the other one and made spa and Palo ressies), and waited outside of Flounder's on deck 5 for them to open so he could make our first three choices for Flounder's, and waitlist the others. We received all of the choices we had listed. (I think he was in there 7 times). Don't forget the cost is $6 an hour. It adds up. The people in there were wonderful, their names were Tracy, Natasha and Lucian. I understand that they usually have 4 full-timers in there, but Kelly hurt her arm or shoulder or something, so she was off. They also have some "part-time" help in there, but those that I mentioned are in there all of the time. We did tip with phone cards. I spoke to one of the counselors and told her that I'd like to share tipping info with the boards, and was told that Walmart cards are especially welcome tips that you can give the counselors. The phone cards are very welcome too (more restrictive I think, but we don't have a Walmart within an easy distance from home, so I went with phone cards). If you tip with cash, they pool all cash together for ALL age groups on board, and take the counselors on trips to WDW or out to breakfast once in a while and alternate between the age groups. If you tip for the bigger kids (Oceaneer's Club or the Lab or the Stack) and give a gift card of some sort, unless you have enough for all counselors of that age group (there are 10-12 for each age group), they raffle them off amoungst that age group if you specify that it is for a particular age group, otherwise, they will be raffled off amoungst all of the counselors. Unfortunately, I digress. I do not know for sure about using two different cabins to get more then three guarenteed spots, but I believe that because you register your child on the paper that you make your time slot requests, I doubt that having two cabins would give you an advantage. It is first come, first serve regarding additional spots according to the supervisor of Flounder's.

Hope this helps!

So, lurontravel, what time were you in line for the Flounder's reservations? It looks like they open for reservations at 1:30. Were you (or DH) in line much before that?

::MickeyMo lurontravel : Your info on Flounders and tipping is the most helpful I've read so far...Thanks...my dils will appreciate it !::MinnieMo

Wow! So what is the advantage of tipping with giftcards versus tipping in cash? It sounds like no matter what you do, the tip is not guaranteed to benefit the person you give it too. I don't care for that policy at all.

I think I'm just going to bring extra cash instead.

We sailed in March 2004 with our son who is 2 1/2. We were 2nd in line for Flounders once it opened up and we got all spots that we requested. It all depends on how many children are in the flounders age group for the cruise. They said there were about 125 on our cruise. They had us put down all the times that we wanted and star our top 3 choices. They said that they fill everyones top 3 choices and then fill the remaining spots on a first come first serve basis.

I agree with other posters and do not think they will let you book the 6 up front, but if you get in line quickly, you have a better chance of getting the spots that you want.

We, also, dropped in a couple times to add my son for a few hours and we had no problem. So, I guess I'm trying to say, get there as early as you can and get someone in line. They usually don't open for reservations until about 1-1:30 (if my memory is right). But we got on board at about 12:05- 12:10 and the line was forming. When they opened, there was at least 25 people behind me.

Hope my suggestions help...we had good luck. :earsboy:

I was on the 4/24 Western with Lurontravel and we were both using the Flounders nursery often. I was surprised to find that when I got onboard at 3:30, which I thought was pretty late, came back at 5:45 to book Flounders, they gave me the 7 day calendar and asked me to write in what times I wanted. I requested 4 nights and since there was not yet a wait list, they told me I was getting those nights. A side note, I blocked 5:45-midnight for all 4 nights, because I was still hoping to get a 6pm at Palo one of those nights. If you want to bring your child later, say at 7:30 pm, you will be charged half price for time booked and not used. You can avoid this by just letting them know in advance. I am not sure how strict this rule is, but they tell you this. Now, what happened was that in my hurry to reserve, I put down the wrong nights. I needed to change two of those dates. When I went back I was now number one on the wait list one of the new nights and number 4 the other night. I got both nights, no problem. The very best thing about Flounders is the huge two way mirror as you walk in that lets you watch your child and they can't see you! Our son was having a blast and that helps you relax. They will not feed your child, only drinks. This is due to allergies, so feed them well before drop off. Even snacks are not allowed. I also tipped with phone cards and $5 each in an envelope for each one. This was for the four CM's that I saw a lot. Lucien was the main one that cared for my son. They mentioned another person, but I only had 4 envelopes planned.
Hope this helps!

Can someone please explain exactly how signing in to flounders works? This is our first cruise and I am CLUELESS.

When are they open, so I can figure out a schedule? Do I pay up front? What if my son doesn't stay for the whole time or even make it to a reserved time, do we still have to pay? Do they give pagers for Flounders like the Oceaneer Club?

Thanks for any info.
