All got up at 5 to get to the airport for 8, flight was at 11. thought we had loads of time as we had booked Premair Class but with the new security in place it was all one line so it took till after 9 until we got checked in. decided to go straight through security and head for the drum and Monkey for breakfast. All had rolls and bacon or sausage. we were going to go for the full breakfast but all a bit nervous so couldn't eat much.
headed to gate for 10 as our DS was to get pre-boarded which I have to say has never worked at Glasgow yet and yip once again we sat whilst everyone got on the plane waiting on the guys with the aisle wheelchair to get him on . Seat were 1 a and b, 2 2 and b with my Mum and dad across on row 1. we were told DS couldn't get row 1 as it was classed as an emergency bulkhead seat when infact it wasn't. the crew were brilliant and said right away row 1 which worked out good because he had to have a harness put on (seats in the 767 were different than the airbus) which engrouched into row 2 which was ok as DH sat there (table wouldnt go down because of harness. flight was good we all got hand held tvs which I think I prefered to the seat back ones. landed at Sanford spot on time, just missed a thunderstorm and pilot lets us all know he is keeping us on the plane as all flights to Tampa have been diverted to sanford along and with the Gatwick and Mancheser flights but they have have just landed as they had to circle for ages because of the storms and couldn't land, he felt it better to sit on the plane than have to stand in a horrendous queue. we sit for a wee while then the captain is told everyone has to get off. we wait until everyone has left the plane which is the norm before we go as DS needs a carry-off . they can't find the wheelchair , so cabin crew and girl at sanford go and look for it themselves. Last year we were told we couldn't get the wheelchair until after clearing customs but the pilot insisted DS get his chair and after they found it they brought it to the door. We flew with MY travel and I have never met such a lovely bunch of crew members, the flight was excellent, crew were excellent so much so that I have written to MY Travel to thank them.
We had sent Mum and Dad away when the flight was emptying thinking they walk slow so by the time we get off they will be there, OMG I have never ever seen a queue in immigration like it ever. we went to a seperate queue thats for disabled passengers, and paniced a bit because DM & DD are in their 70's , crew were in the queue next to us and said where are your parents , go and get them no way said me , I thought we would get linched so he went and found them and brought them to us. got to the immiration guy and because DS2 had a new passport he had to go to the bit where they take you into a room. I went with him, felt he was still too young to go on his own and OMG they were pulling people in but the dozens the rooms was packed. we landed at 3 and got out the door after we collected our luggage at 6.
Boys and Mum went with DH in our car as it was hired seperately and the guys picks you up at the airport. DD and I went over to Dollar for ours. was told we had to pay another $70 for breakdown cover or if we broke down they wouldn't come out with a stiff charge. felt a bit conned but what do you do. loaded the car - told what aisle and number etc. only for another family to get told the same number, sowe had to wait until a girl found out what had happened. not impressed with dollar this time round.
headed down the I4 towards SSR checked in and got a couple of things like bread etc at the shop. we had said we would go to to Walmart but with all the time at the airport we were just too tired. got a lovely villa overlooking DTD infact it turned out to be the same room as last year. this is where we were, ground floor
