This has really been the most emtional rollacoaster ride of trip planning ever, normally I just book them and wait for them to come along, but there have been a few twists and turns for the planning of this much wanted holiday.
Let me take you back to almost 18 months ago, before we were even due to go on our last visit to Disney, Vicki and I really fancied doing another Disney cruise, after we had a great time doing a 4 day one the year before. To ensure we gave ourselfs plenty of time to save for a 7 day cruise, I pre booked almost 18 months out a seven day Double dip at Castaway Cay and made loads of arrangements to meet up with friends that I had made on the cruise boards here who were also going on the same cruise. May 2005 sometime I even managed to get Karen (Miffy2003) so excited about it, that she and her family booked to come along with us as well.
All excited about our cruise for 2006, at WDW last year we had a special meet with about 10 families including Karens at Trails End, which was wonderful. Just before Christmas of 2005 I had a letter form the school informing me of the dates of Vickis GCSE Exams and when the results would be published and when she would need to register in College (depending on her results) and yes the results and registration would all need to take place, while we would be sailing on the cruise.
You would not believe the amount of sleepless nights I had about us not being here, and after talking it over with Vicki and her dad and the school and collage, I made the heartbreaking decision to cancel our wonderful cruise which we had so been looking forward to. I felt that Vicki would only have this one chance to be with her friends to pick up her results and register at collage and I knew she really in her heart wanted to be here. I told Karen the bad news which she took wonderfully and fully understood, even though I felt terrible telling her as we had made loads of plans. I also told all my friend from overseas on the boards here. We all promised that we would make it happen someday.
So where to go from there, How about October I thought, had a quick word with the college to see if Vicki did enroll would she be able to take 5 days extra as it would be covering the half term and in light of the fact that we had cancelled August they gave me their blessing.
So back into planning mode I went, I managed to change our flights from August to October but we had to go from Manchester as all flights from Cardiff to Orlando stop for the winter, but as the half term week in Wales is the week after the one in England we managed to secure two premium gold seats for £600 less than was costing us from Cardiff. Decided we would stay onsite and because I fell in love with the Boardwalk area last year we booked the Dolphin for 14 nights.
Christmas came and went, and I was fully into my planning, found out now that Kaylee, Alan and Baby Joseph would also be there the same time, which was fantastic and then John (night train) Laura and Caitlin would also be there as would loads of other dissers including Jackie(jns) so we arranged a dis meet for Nov 3rd at Epcot. Really looking forward to seeing you all there and everybody else who have since put their names on the list. We will also be meeting up with Kev and Family, Deb and family and Susan, as well as lots of other dissers.
My boss then tells me that she will also be there with her husband and their daughter at the same time, so I spent loads of times eductaing her on the wonders of Disney and booking all her ADR's for her, and she is very kindly repaying me by treating Vicki and I to a meal at the California Grill when we get there.
I have been in mega planning mode ever since, with breakfast at Donalds booked, MNSSHP, A shopping day penciled in amongst loads of other things that we plan to do while we are there with Kaylee.
Vickis friend and her parents are staying at HRH while we are there, so we are also meeting up with them, and spending a couple of days at Universal this year, infact I think up until now I only have 2 days free where we are not meeting anybody at all, and Im thrilled to bits, as I love to meet up with people while Im there.
Fast forwrad to July and I really do need to start that diet I have been promising myself, and so I do, losing so far todate approx 26lbs.
Park tickets are ordered, train tickets to Manchester are here, Overnight hotel at Manchester Airport is all sorted, My flight tickets have arrived and I have confirmed my ressie at the Dolphin. Money changed into Dollars. A very good friend of mine who works for the DCL is picking Vicki and I up at Sanford and returning us back there after our holidays for which I am extremley grateful. We are also spending a day with him at Celebration which Im really looking forward to.
So here I am 9 days out, 5 more working days to go. Dropping the dog off to the kennels next Thursday, then boarding the train to Manchester next Friday for our Flight on Saturday.
As dissapointed as I was to have to have cancelled my cruise and holiday in August, there will be time enough for another one hopefully in 2008 to celebrate Vickis 18th birthday, however I must remember this time, that she may need to be around to pick up her A level results and book a place in University if thats what she decides to so, cant be making the same mistake twice
