If Florida residents didn't pay federal income taxes, I don't think there would be a square foot of space available.

State no, federal yes, of course. Are you serious? But really there are many who are not required to pay any federal taxes and even get some tax money as a gift from the federal govt.

thanks, now trying to find out if Florida taxes a federal pension and social security.

also if you are thinking of buying there-VERY high property tax(because no state tax)

Actually Florida is # 22- so it's right in the middle - I live in one of the lowest and according to the chart , Florida resident would pay 4 x what I pay:)

State sales tax and property taxes are pretty low compared to many places in the US and no state income tax. We like to tax tourists pretty heavy to decrease the tax burden of residents, so keep visiting please.

The burden to residents to support state and municipal employees is pretty much the lowest in the nation as well.

they always brag about no state taxes, but the cost of living is a lot higher then middle America ask LBJ :p

Cost of living, sales tax , property taxes and insurance rates vary greatly throughout the state. It all depends what part of the state you are in.

Legitimate residents of Puerto Rico don't have to pay federal income taxes on income received from sources in PR. I think there are other US territories with similar taxation. However, it's not as if people are beating a path to live in Puerto Rico.

In most states that do not have an income tax they make up the revenue through property taxes. A few places are able to balance that somewhat with revenue generated by tourism but it is fairly rare. If we still lived in Colorado, with property and state income tax, we would be paying just over half of what we pay in Texas without state income tax and a very large amount of property tax.
