I have an issue going with guest services as to why I am not entitled to a Florida resident discount to purchase tickets. Our main residence is in New Jersey, however, we live part time in Florida and I do pay taxes in Florida. I do not have a State of Florida ID as I didn't feel the need to but that is all they will accept in order to get a Florida resident discount.

Does anyone know anyway around this or is there nothing I can do?

You have to have a government issued photo id: state of FL id card or driver's license, voter's registration card, college id or military id listing a FL base. No way around it.

I would go and get a Florida state ID not driver's license. They are only $3 and all you need to show is your New Jersey license and either a birth certificate or a valid passport. Then you will have no problem getting the Florida resident discount.

So can ANYONE bring in their $3, license, and passport/birth cert. and get a Fla. id?
You don't need proof of residence?

Amusingly, you don't need to demonstrate residence in Florida to get a Florida State ID. You probably need an address to write down, and you might even need to receive mail at that address, but who doesn't have a relative or two somewhere in the state?

Of course, the web site also says this:

Giving false information on an application for a driver license or identification card is a third degree felony which may result in arrest, and includes a one-year suspension of the driving privilege.

I've never thought much about it, because the resident seasonal pass is not that much cheaper than the tickets I buy each year anyway, and quite literally the last thing I want to do on vacation is to go to the florida DMV.

Not sure what you mean by you pay taxes in florida? florida has no state tax? and anyone shopping here is also a florida tax payer.. If you own a home here then you would pay property tax impact fees etc and if that wa sthe case then providing them with your tax bill and a current electricty bill should be enough...

I know that my dad had to make a choice as to where he was going to claim 'residency'...either Quincy Mass, or Pompano Beach Fl. He decided on Fl where he has a condo. They split basically 50/50 between the two, but had to decide where to vote. That was what he was told...he votes where he is a legal resident.

Thats exactly what i thought, I bet your dad has a florida drivers license right? the OP is either a New jerseyResident or a Florida resident "offically" if he has a florida Voters, card License, or hoeowners poperty tax

My husband and I recently moved to FL, so of course we have FL driver's licenses. But my son who is still in college in AL was able to get a State of FL ID with our FL address on it (since this is now his "permanent address"). He did not have to surrender his AL driver's license.

My mother who lives in GA but has a condo in FL that she uses is also eligible for a FL state ID. The state seems to be fairly lenient, since FL has so many part-timers. You just need a FL address and evidence that you live there part time.

These state IDs with a FL address then make you eligible for the FL discounts.

DISers who have moved to Florida have told about going to Guest Relations with a property deed, a mortgage certificate and all KINDS of valid documentation that they lived in Florida.

Without the documentation srfrgrl07 mentioned - they were refused FL Resident discounts.

Thanks everyone for all your help!!!

I didn't know it was that easy to just get a Florida State ID. So let me confirm...I would need to show my property tax bill or electric bill that has my name and Florida address on it? Since there is myself, my DH and my 2 sons, then we would all have to get them? I thought I had read that they will issue one pass per each ID?

Thanks again!
