DH is dying to take DS to Universal because he is finally 40 inches and can ride Spiderman and Transformers. We both have AP's but DS needs one now too. I'd like to get him a Power Pass.

I checked the website and they only list ID's as an option to prove FL residency. I know Disney allows other forms. Does anyone know if Universal allows anything else? At Disney we used our car insurance policy.

We've only been here two weeks and we haven't had time to get our licenses. We don't have any utility hookups or bills because the only bill we will have is electric which has been hooked up, but we don't have a bill yet. We also do have our lease.

ask guest services by sending them an email.
best way to find out what they will accept.

if they tell you a lease is sufficient, take that email with you when you go to buy the power pass.

Thanks, I will try that!

Florida ID or Florida driver license.

Thanks! I know that is what the website says but I didn't know if maybe there was something else they would accept. When you work 8-4:30 every day and the DMV is only open from 8-4 it leaves no time for getting there. DH will probably be able to get there to get his this week, I don't know when I'll even be able to get there, but he was hoping to take him tomorrow.

I don't think FL licenses are something you get that same day. And I hear they are an ordeal to get.

I will say...we bought a one-day ticket for my FL resident cousin (12 years old) , and then upgraded him to a FL AP that same day, and no one needed any proof for him. He doesn't have an ID and they didn't need his parent's ID for us to upgrade (his address, yes, but not an ID). And we aren't FL residents.

Most drivers license offices give you your license right there. They take your picture and print it out on the spot. A lot of them also take appointments. Check the tax collector offices near you and see if you can get an appointment. Other than that I recommend getting there about 10-15 minutes before they open so your wait will be tolerable.

Under the age of 18 you do not have to have proof of residency for a resident minor of Florida.

For example if you are a resident of Florida and you are buying your tickets or AP's on Florida resident discount the person who is purchasing the tickets (mom, dad, grandparents etc... Would have show proof of resident not the minor.

You will receive your new license on the same day of your visit. You will have to surrender your other license from your previous state unless that has changed.

agree with robo.
my brother moved from hawaii to florida last year and obtained his florida drivers license the day he applied for it
easy and smooth

Definitely surprised, given what I have read about getting DLs in FL.

It's not that it's hard or complicated to get your FL license, it just requires a lot of paperwork.

For example, when we moved back from FL to NH all I had to do was bring my license, birth certificate and proof of my address to the DMV to get my NH license. (Incidentally, in NH they don't give you your license that day. You get a 60 day temporary license printed on special paper.)

In FL I'll need my marriage certificate because I have changed my name at one point in my life, my birth certificate, my social security card, two proofs of residential address and of course, my NH license.

They do issue your license right there though. And the nice part is, like other have posted, they do accept appointments so that can cut down on your wait.

I used to live in FL, this isn't true. As long as you have a bank or utility statement and a copy of the lease or loan, you can have your FL DL in an hour.

It's a pain in the butt, to be sure, if you have name changes. But that is sort of a one and done thing. My newest license has a star on it which means I have provided all the id stuff, so next time I renew will be a piece of cake. Same when we got my DD's permit. I had to provide all the proof at that time, and when we went to change her permit for her license it was a piece of cake. They even have a website to help you figure out what you need.

Being clear, you're correcting me (along with everyone else) for my stated assumption (not stated as fact but as a concern) that it wouldn't be given on that day.

You quoted my whole post, but I think you're only correcting me on the fact that they'll go home that day with the DL.

IMO people who think that the amount of info FL needs for a DL is not a pain really REALLY want to live in FL. :)

The bulk of my post, the important part, was that the child won't need the parents to get the DLs right now. The parents HAVE passes. Of course, they should get the DLs asap because they are residents now, but that's beside the point.

bumbershoot I'am sure as in any public office that people have had bad experiences at times. When my husband and I went. We called ahead and asked for information on required documents. We brought those and our license. They did require having a a bill that had been sent to our new home address in Florida as well as other documents. They have really tried to cut down on people who do not actually live in Florida from getting ID's and drivers licenses.
We were able to complete the process without problem and left in a timely manner.
