Florida or California?

I'm wondering if anyone else is having second thoughts about going to Florida with all of these recent Stand Your Ground murders. I know guns are not allowed inside the parks, but we'll only be inside the park part of our trip. I'm thinking Disneyland is a much better option than Disneyworld these days. Has anyone else thought that too? Is that crazy? I don't think I want to take my family to Florida.

I live in California and there's a similar stand your ground law here. Much of it came to light after the happenings in Florida. Just as a park stand point, WDW/Florida is soooooo much better. I'm originally from NJ and been living in California for 13 years. As a safety concern, I really think the security they have in place at both Florida and California is good. Don't live in fear.

15,000 drunk driving deaths a year and I'm not giving up my car. 2 weird incidents more than a year apart don't even register on my "concerned" radar.

Interesting first post, BTW :rolleyes1

Since I don't plan on doing anything that might evoke "stand your ground" type feelings in people, I don't see it affecting my vacation choice. :confused3

You're only visiting, right? I went in August and as much as I would have liked for GZ to be have been found guilty, he was not. I was not going to cancel my family vacation because of it though. I can see if I was moving there and would have to deal with Florida state laws as a resident. I don't feel less safe traveling to go to WDW but I would as a resident..if that makes sense.

I have lived in California and visited DL a couple of times. As much as I do not like some of their state laws, I would not based that around my family vacation unless it really affects my family vacation.

I hope you can decide, either way have fun..Disney Parks are about forgetting all the worlds' problems and traveling to a magical place!

I wouldn't worry about it. Over 19 million people live in FL, and who knows how many tourists are there any give day. Only two or three crazy stories have come out in the last 6 months and all involved some sort of confrontation that got out of hand where someone with a gun went all wack-a-doo.

I just heard a story today about two drivers in FL who got road rage and both started showing guns at each other and then one driver shot himself in the leg and crashed...hahaha...crazy, crazy! But again, that was two people both entering into a confrontational environment where it got out of hand. I think you will be fine.

Not sure why the no back down law would effect your vacation?? Do you have plans to do something to instigate a problem? When I read your title, I expected a comparison between the two, travel questions and such. I would not avoid Florida for this reason. I would like to head to CA and DLR at some point and would think the activities, weather and experiences would be the determining reason.

I do believe they have a similar law in CA and a lot of other states are heading in that direction.

I'm pretty certain the texting man didn't think this behavior was going to get him killed.

OP, it's not very logical to change vacation plans because of this. Believe me, there are plenty of unhinged people in California as well.

I fell very comfortable with vacationing in Florida. Crazy things can happen anywhere. Luckily those crazy happenings are rare, even though we hear about them more nowadays due to the internet and media coverage.
