Florida Ideas...

After staying at AKL for a week on my honeymoon, we will have 3 days to do whatever in Florida - whether it be in Orlando or the coast or somewhere else. My fiance has been to Florida/WDW lots, but I have not. Any ideas on what we should do/where to visit/stay? THANKS!

Depending on how far you would like to drive, I would suggest going to the beach. I hear the Sarasota area, Captiva, Sanibelle (sorry for the spelling!) is beautiful. If you don't mind a 3-4 hour dirve, Naples or Marco Island is beautiful and very nice. The Marriott on Marco is beautifull. Nice pool, great beach wonderfull food. My in laws moved to Naples from Marco. We used to hang out at the Marriott alot. They have a great bar right by the pool. If you are interested in Marco we know all the places to go!

Another vote for Naples from me - we LOVE it!!! Really beautiful and sitting on the sand watching the sunset by the pier is one of the most romantic things I've ever done - ideal for a honeymoon I would have thought!!!

Naples is further south on the Gulf Coast, about 190 miles from WDW.....as Gretchen said its a three/four hour drive from Orlando but the roads are good and you seem to get there in no time!

This is a good site - www.goflorida.about.com - which tells you about the other bits of Florida and has a page with driving distances on it to help you decide how far you want to go!!!

Naples is a bit further south. Sanibel and Captiva are beautiful and more natural. I think it depends on what you like to do. If you like to just relax and beach it, maybe bike ride, then the islands are for you. If you like more excitement then Naples might be a better choice.

Not to hijack the thread, but every year my family and I go to Florida and we try a new place everytime. (Convenient because my brother works for Marriott so we get awesome rates)

Anyway, my question is, what is the closest airport to Naples so I could maybe look into there for our next trip?

Naples has an airport, we returned our car there. It's an executive airport, don't know who flies in there. Otherwise, it's Ft. Myers. We've flown in/out of there alot.

We spent our vacation traveling along the Gulf Coast in July. We loved all of it. My favorite was Marco Island. The beach was not too shelly, water crystal clear, just floated and watched the fish swimming under my float. What a trip! However, Fort Desoto State Park, just outside of St Petersburg, had the most beautiful beach I have ever been to.

I liked Sarasota area but didn't like the beaches as much. Too shelly and with lots of seaweed. Beaches seemed kind of short.
