Florida Humidity?

Hey everyone. I'm coming up on my first trip to WDW (I'm a Disneyland kid) and I've heard some horror stories about the humidity in Florida and rides like Splash Mountain...some people have told me not to ride them because you never dry off, because the humidity is too high. I honestly don't think this can be true, or else those rides wouldn't be there right? (And I don't want to wear a poncho, heh)

Any tips and/or advice for a west coast (zero humidity climate) kid?

Thanks!

Hair gel and ponytail holders. That's the only thing that fights the frizz. :thumbsup2

As for the humidity, your body gets used to it, unless it's a truly soupey day (which I've had all week :headache: ) you dry fairly quickly.

Just drink plenty of water and you'll be fine. Us East Coasters still wouldn't be east coasters if we couldn't survive it.

The hot Florida sun will dry out your clothes from any drenchings you might get from park rides. Your sweating from the humidity is a seperate matter.

Actually getting wet on Splash Mountain will be very refreshing!! The humidity down here stinks - but you just sort of go with it. I personally go for the baseball cap - cannot deal with the hair!!

And depending on when you are going...you know we also get a LOT of rain down here during these summer months. We always found that when it was raining, we would then hit the top "indoor" rides. Many families with children tend to go for hiding, so be troopers through the rain. Just remember, they are air-conditioned, so it will be chilly if you are wet from the rain.

LOL... I love some of the posts on here. I have to agree with a lot of it though. Need to have your hair up, drink lots of water, light clothing... there are those spray bottles with the fans (that is a good way to cool off actually, been some research on that I learned recently) and those bands that you put in water... they can lower your temp about 10 degrees. If WDW doesnt still have them then walmart or qvc does. I was there in June 21-23rd and back over night 3rd July.... June was Oppressive compared to July trip. I grew up in south Florida, and with the coastal breezes the humidity wasnt bad. But where I now in North Central FL... omg! its bad! Last year, we had humidity until December! was a sad time to be at wdw with Christmas Decorations up and it not be cool, then just before Mousefest... i was a happy camper. The humidity also didnt show up until June vs late March/early April though, so a small respite.:goodvibes It could always be much worse!:)

he summertime, just humidity!!

You are so right! In South Fla we do get a "bit" of a breeze...I know Orlando - being in the middle of the state - has no breeze during the summertime! BUT it definitely gets a bit cooler during the fall and winter months. I lived there briefly (way back when) - went to college there and did work at DW ::MickeyMo

first of all purchase your mister fans and cooling bands outside of WDW...the fans are 17 bucks a pop there!!! do be sure you take things to help you. I freeze water bottles in my frigde to carry and they help beat the heat as well!i know not everyone has access to freezers on property though... be sure to drink LOTS of water and go slow...not commando to see it all...also I do a ball cap to keep the head covered and care for the eyes as well...sunglasses alone don't do it! you will appreciate the rains and rides that are air conditioned...oh in MK be sure to get your Dole WHip...they can certainly go a long way in reducing your internal temp that risies with the temps! Sunscreen re-applied several times a day as well! Have a great vacation!!!

Did someone say "dole whip"???? had my first back in May!! very yummy!

and Ariel07, there are breezes in Orlando;) ... just few and far between... but MK is so closed in it makes it worse. Where are you in S. FL?

Im from the west coast too! Honestly the humidity is there, but you'll be having so much fun it will not be your #1 concern. And no, you wont be wet all day, infact you'll be doing all you can to make that wetness last!

If you find yourself feeling a little famished from the heat, then inside rides like pirates, spaceship earth, or tower of terror will be very nice, even standing in line is refreshing!

dont worry too much, as soon as you get there you'll be having so much fun you wont even consider the humidity much. Just dress right, and remember to get hydrated. Have fun!!!!!!

If you're staying on property, you could make a quick trip back to your hotel room and change into dry clothes. You might want to take a break during the day and rest up, anyway. WDW is much bigger and more spread out than DL, so you'll be doing a lot more walking!

If you don't want to leave the park, take a change of clothes with you in the morning and rent a locker for the day. You can easily fit in a couple of light shirts and shorts in one of the larger lockers, along with other assorted items that you might not want to carry with you throughout the day.

Personally, the only time I've had problems with clothes not drying was when I stupidly wore jeans on Kali River Rapids. I don't recommend it! :laundy:
