Florida Colleges/Universities for Theatre Major?

Since your DD will have GA residency, don't overlook Valdosta State. They have a great theater department. DD17 has looked at several GA schools and she likeed their options the best. They have communications, mass media, theater, musical theater, dance, and a whole lot more. Not sure where you live, but VSU is only 4 hours from Atlanta and 14 miles from the Florida state line. Three hours from WDW! Woot!

Oh my gosh, minky, I completly forgot about Valdosta State. Thanks for the reminder!

Brenau College in Gainesville (Ga)-- okay, really small relatively unknown school.... but they supposedly have an excellent theater program (best in Ga?)

One of our seniors has applied to Brenau and was accepted. She didn't want a large school at first and thought Brenau fit well. She is a techie girl, so that may be on our list, too. Thanks!

Is a great school for that....I have a cousin going there. That said, it is a private school, tuition is high and there are limited scholarships (my cousin is on a full dance scholarship, with a small study grant for books/room & board).

Thank you all for your responses. I know she is just a sophomore, but in order to keep my daughter motivated with grades (other than drama related ones), I need to keep her thinking about colleges. We are going to Thespian Conference at Columbus State next week. That will also help her as many colleges are present. Right now, our list looks like this:
Columbus State University (GA)
Berry College (GA)
Armstrong-Atlantic University (GA)
Kennesaw State University (GA)
Valdosta State University (GA)

Out of state:
Western Carolina University
University of Central Florida

I'm sure this list will change in the next year and a half or so, but it's a good start. I'm pretty sure the two of state schools are a certainity. They both offer everything she wants and both have Hospitality and Tourism majors.

Thanks again, and if anyone else has ideas, let me hear them!

Forgot one more: Georgia College & State University, in Milledgeville. They have a great fine arts dept. 'Course, you do have to live in Milledgeville. Also known as the Complete Middle of Nowhere.

I'm chaperoning our group to the Thespian conference next week. Maybe we'll pass each other. :goodvibes

Minky, I'll be at a vendor table pretty much the entire time. Look for the air brush tatoo table and that will be me! It's a pretty decent fundraiser for our booster club!

With anything in the entertainment business, acting, music, performing, or dancing. She will want to have a degree in addition to Theater because on a financial stand point this is a very insecure way to make a living.

Yes, that's why UCF and WCU are still on the table. Both schools also offer Hopsitality and Tourism degrees. If not that, it will be some form of communications or graphics.
