Florida Booster Requirement?

Hi,

Can anyone help me, what is Florida's law regarding boosters? I need to decide if we need to bring one booster or two boosters.

There is no booster seat requirement in Florida.

What is Florida's child safety belt law?
All children under six years must be properly restrained while riding in any car, pickup truck, or van on Florida's roads, no matter where they are sitting in the vehicle. Children through age three must be secured in a separate carrier or a vehicle manufacturer's integrated child safety seat. For children aged four through five years, a separate carrier, or integrated child safety seat, or a safety belt may be used. "

Not trying to start a debate or anything but Florida's car seat laws are actually quite pathetic. I wouldn't want to go by that when deciding what is safest for my child.

Here's the 5 step test to determine if a child can safely ride in an adult seatbelt w/out the booster yet:

Answer these five questions to find out if your child still requires an automobile booster seat.

Does the child sit all the way back against the auto seat?
Do the child's knees bend comfortably at the edge of the auto seat?
Does the belt cross the shoulder between the neck and arm?
Is the lap belt as low as possible, touching the thighs?
Can the child stay seated like this for the whole trip?
If you answered “No” to any of these questions, your child needs a booster seat to ride safely in the car.

My son is six and will be in a booster(he is actually 5 3/4 right now and still in a five point harness- he is only 38 pounds but I assume by April he will be 40lbs and able to go in a booster)- regardless of Florida's law- because it is simply safer- my dd is 11 and is just out of hers- there is a height and weight limit in some places- safety is safety to me- JMHO Jen

I just discussed the situation with DH and he said to bring two backless boosters. Our kids are...

DD 6 46" 48 lbs
DS 8 48" 50 lbs

We're planning on using the Magical Express to drop us off at the Car Care Center (can't use the free shuttle because our flight comes in too late) and need to pick up the boosters (not get the boosters delivered straight to the hotel room) for the ride from the Car Care Center to Riverside.

the car rental companies have them for rent- and may even let you use them for free- worth looking into- Jen

Have you confirmed that ME will do that? It's my understanding that the ONLY place that ME will take you to is the resort where you are staying.

Just FYI, Magical Express will only drop you off at your WDW Resort and runs 24/7. If your arriving late and want a rental you have to rent it at the airport or use ME and then get the rental from the car care center the next day. Boosters or carseats can't be used on the ME or WDW buses.

FWIW ME even at night is very easy to use and esp if you use the luggage delivery feature it takes all the hassle out of arriving late.

I have used DME 5x including the luggage delivery feature and love it.
