Florida adoptions

Well O'Mike! I think you and Shrek would make a wonderful family for some little ones. ::yes:: (Note the plural in that belief). :teeth:

I like the court ruling, but, not the commentary beneath the article.

Yay Florida!!!

As for the posters, the online news forum posters seem to bring out the worst in people. I know most of our local news outlets have either stopped allowing comments all together or only allow comments on certain articles. The comments are great if you can have intelligent dialogue but a lot of people use them as a bully pulpit. Of course I don't care, I've been called a pervert when I talk about my family on those forums. I've been told I should lock my autistic son up in his room (this in response to a local article about a 16yo autistic boy that was arrested and maced at his own home (police were responding to a call at the other 1/2 of this house, not his home)) So people can get pretty nasty.

That's why I like the DIS.

I did go to Channel 13 but the comments were so negative I didn't stay long. The though crossed my mind to post a rebuttal, but really... anyone posting that kind of vituperative spew isn't going to benefit from another point of view.

At any rate, gay folk have been foster parents in FL for years. It was asinine to not allow adoptions.

No kidding! In a world of kids in need, the idea that someone is capable of fostering, but, not adopting is ridiculous!

I have to say that as a foster parent, I often think that I have the more difficult of the two jobs. I encounter people online who have adopted kids with the kinds of issues that we get as foster parents willing to take teens and I'm amazed by them. I can't imagine dealing with the types of things we deal with without the support network that we get as foster parents. But, anyone prepared to provide a loving home for a child deserves to be applauded for their commitment, not told, "Oh no, you're gay, that's not allowed."

It was a ridiculous law.

This is the best lunch hour spent on the DIS in ages. Thank you! As for who's first, it may well be me and Gabby. If not with baby M, then it may well be with another child or even just me doing a second parent adoption if we can get Gabby pregnant. This is awesome news! :woohoo:
